  • Patent number: 4934105
Abstract: Measuring method and equipment for automatic control of forward and backward movements of a grinding wheel of a surface grinder. The upper surfaces of the workpieces are felt by means of a length measuring head mounted on the frame of the grinder during different successive passes of these pieces under the grinding wheel to obtain each time a measuring signal which substantially represents their actual size. A reference block of given thickness composed of one or several pieces is placed on the grinder table, in addition to the pieces to be machined and out of reach of the grinding wheel. The upper surface of this block is periodically felt with the measuring head to obtain a reference signal and the value of this signal is stored each time.

  • Patent number: 4831785
Abstract: A vibration sensor, located on a chuck member for a workpiece and rotating therewith, detects the signal emitted at the instant a tool member contacts the workpiece. The vibration sensor produces an output signal to modulate a transmitter and a receiver fastened to the machine tool frame receives the information broadcast by the transmitter. The information is processed to produce a signal which reduces the speed of a motor controlling the advance of the tool member. The speed of the tool member is thus reduced as soon as the tool member contacts the workpiece. The arrangement is particularly suited to machines for grinding interior diameters and prevents damage following accidental collision of the workpiece and tool member.

  • Patent number: 4614038
Abstract: The measuring head intended for measuring diameters of cylindrical parts, e.g. parts being ground to diameter, comprises two measuring projections which are easily adjustable when a change is made from one diameter to another diameter, while maintaining excellent precision whatever the diameter concerned and the distance which separates the measuring head from the part to be machined. For this purpose, each of the measuring projections is a crank comprising a pivoted arm and a cylindrical rod projecting from the arm and forming a measuring contact element. The cranks are secured to an upper block and a lower block, respectively. A pick-up measures the distance existing between the blocks. The cranks are implemented in such manner that the axes of the rods always remain parallel to each other whatever the angle of rotation or adjustment of each of the arms.

  • Patent number: 4562909
Abstract: Two clutches are disposed between a driving shaft and a driven shaft, in particular a first synchronous clutch which automatically engages when the driven shaft overtakes the driving shaft and a second synchronous clutch which automatically engages when the driving shaft overtakes the driven shaft. As long as there is no external intervention the two clutches mutually protect one another against unintentional engagement. The clutch arrangement can only be put into a ready or enabled position by the action of an external force. From the ready position, the paired synchronous clutches can effect a torque transmitting connection between a driving shaft and a driven shaft when their rotational speeds are synchronous.

  • Patent number: 4351114
Abstract: Standard block comprising an element (L) kept in vibration by means of the motor (M). As soon as an object comes into mechanical contact with the measuring surface (C), the flexible-part (F) gives very slightly allowing the regulating screw (Vi) to disturb the free oscillations of the element (L). The detector (E) detects this disturbance and signals the moment of mechanical contact by means of the lamp (La) for example. The standard block allows precise measurements to be taken by announcing the moment of contact, without the measurement precision being influenced by the contact pressure.

  • Patent number: 4247157
Abstract: A cant or tiltable segment-radial bearing comprises a support segment and two guide segments in which there is mounted a shaft. The shaft can be sprayed with lubricant by means of nozzle tubes which are arranged in the intermediate spaces between the support segment and each of the guide segments and in the intermediate space between both of the guide segments, respectively. The nozzle tubes extend in spaced relationship from such segments essentially parallel to the shaft axis. Since the support segment has a large width in relation to the diameter of the shaft an intensive lubrication of such support segment is required, wherefore this support segment is subdivided by a lubricant outflow groove which extends in the circumferential direction.
