Patent number: 5697740Abstract: A clamping device for connecting a toolhead and a toolholder on machine tools using a cylindrical or at least partly conical location hole with corresponding shank, wherein a rotatable clamping bolt with spiral guides is used, in clamping to move clamping members outwards from within, thus providing a positive and non-positive locking of the toolhead and the toolholder. The clamping bolt has at least one stop to limit the angle of rotation in clamping. The retainer for the clamping members is spring mounted in the toolholder.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: December 16, 1997Assignee: Widia GmbHInventors: Rainer Von Haas, Hans Tack, Rene Huchon

Patent number: 5065492Abstract: A machine tool turret having a plurality of tool holders with tension rod-actuated mechanisms for locking the tool head can be rotated to bring a selected tool holder into engagement with jaws of a release unit, applying to the tension rod a force sufficient to compress the disk spring stack thereof and release the tool and to the holder a counterforce which is equal and opposite in direction and prevents the release unit from stressing the bearings of the turret or any spindle bearings which may make the tool holder rotatable.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: Krupp Widia GmbHInventors: Rainer Von Haas, Hans Tack

Patent number: 4864714Abstract: An apparatus for receiving a tool carrier comprises a tool holder defining a receiving bore adapted to receive a portion of the tool carrier, an arrangement for supplying pressurized fluid to the receiving bore of the tool holder to clean adjacent surfaces of the tool holder and the tool carrier during insertion of the tool carrier into the receiving bore; and an arrangement for detecting the pressure of the fluid supplied to the tool holder for ascertaining whether correct operational positioning of the tool carrier exists with respect to the tool holder.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1988Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Assignee: Fried. Krupp Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventors: Rainer Von Haas, Hans Tack

Patent number: 4784542Abstract: A tool-mounting assembly includes a tool head having a receiving bore and a basic tool holder having a receiving pin that is shaped for insertion into the bore. The bore has a groove with a sloping surface and the receiving pin includes movably mounted clamping elements having lugs. The assembly also includes a clamping device in the form of a screw with left-handed threads that engage one clamping element and right-handed threads that engage the other, so that the clamping elements can be moved away from each other to force the lugs into the groove and thereby clamp the tool head to the basic tool holder. In another embodiment an axially movable push rod is used as the clamping device to force the clamping elements away from each other.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1986Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: Fried. Krupp Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventors: Hans Tack, Kurt Mayer

Patent number: 4715753Abstract: A coupling for connecting a tool head and a tool holder. The tool head is inserted with an at least partially conical receiving pin into a correspondingly configured receiving bore in the tool holder. Tool head and tool holder are actuated by clamping elements so that a contact collar on the tool head rests against the counterface of the tool holder. The clamping device is composed of a clamping slide which is movable in the longitudinal direction of the tool holder. In the front part of the clamping slide, movable clamping jaws are provided which cooperate with a pin fixedly disposed in the tool holder in such a manner that movement of the clamping slide initiated during insertion of the receiving pin into the receiving bore causes the clamping jaws to be pushed onto the pin and to thus grip behind an annular groove in the blind bore of the tool head, thus causing the tool head to be locked to the tool holder.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1987Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Fried. Krupp Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventor: Hans Tack

Patent number: 4615244Abstract: A tool assembly includes a tool holder, a tool head and a clamping arrangement for rapidly releasably tightening the tool head to the tool holder. The clamping arrangement includes a clamping bar having a longitudinal axis and being received in the tool holder and a clamping piston connected to the clamping bar for displacement therewith. The clamping piston has first and second wedge faces arranged symmetrically to the bar axis and each defining therewith a first acute angle of at least 45.degree.. The clamping arrangement further has first and second cams movable in a direction of motion perpendicular to the bar axis. Each cam has a camming face constituted at least in part by a surface defining, with the direction of motion of the cams, a second acute angle equalling the difference between 90.degree. and the first acute angle.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1985Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: Fried. Krupp Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventors: Norbert Reiter, Hans Tack

Patent number: 4406195Abstract: A tool assembly has a tool head insertable on a basic tool holder. The basic tool holder has a longitudinally displaceable locking bar and a plurality of slidable locking pins actuated by the locking bar. In a first position of the locking bar the locking pins are in an advanced position in which they project into respectively aligned lock holes of the tool head inserted on the basic tool holder. In a second position of the locking bar the locking pins are in a withdrawn condition, permitting the tool head to be pulled off the basic tool holder.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1981Date of Patent: September 27, 1983Assignee: Fried. Krupp Gesellschaft mit beschrankter HaftungInventors: Heinrich Kruger, Hans Tack

Patent number: 4288179Abstract: A cutting tool bit has a central mounting hole, a planar bottom face and an opposite top face having a central zone situated at a lower level than the marginal zones thereof; chip breaking elements formed on the top face; and lateral faces each defining a cutting edge with the top face. Each cutting edge has linear length portions sloping from opposite ends of the cutting edge in the direction of its middle towards the bottom face. There is further provided an elevation situated in the central zone of the top face and a plurality of surfaces each situated between a respective cutting edge and the elevation. The chip breaking elements are formed by the surfaces and the elevation.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1979Date of Patent: September 8, 1981Assignee: Fried. Patent number: 4050129Abstract: A milling cutter has a cutter body, a plurality of stops received in the cutter body, an adjusting device for separately axially displacing each stop, a cutter blade received in each stop and a wedge member associated with each stop for tightening each cutter blade to the respective stop. The adjusting device comprises a projection which is attached to and extends from each stop and which is received in a recess provided in the cutter body, at least two axially oriented clamping faces which form part of each projection and which are inclined with respect to one another and set screws cooperating with each clamping face. Each set screw is supported in the cutter body in a substantially radial orientation with respect to the axis of the cutter body. Each clamping face is obliquely disposed with respect to the orientation of the associated set screw for effecting an axial shift of the stop upon tightening the respective set screw.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1976Date of Patent: September 27, 1977Assignee: Fried. Patent number: 4040156Abstract: A blade holder component secured to a revolving milling cutter body includes walls which define a recess for receiving a cutting blade, and which support the cutting blade inserted in the recess. The blade holder component incorporates an adjusting device having a resiliently deformable tongue which is defined by a single slot extending into the blade holder component from the zone of the blade-receiving recess. The tongue has a terminal portion including a support area for engaging the cutting blade received in the recess. A set screw passing through the tongue and traversing the slot is threadedly engaged in the blade holder component adjacent the tongue. By turning the set screw, the position of the resilient tongue is changed for altering the orientation of the cutting blade in the recess of the blade holder component.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1976Date of Patent: August 9, 1977Assignee: Fried.
