Abstract: Methods for providing temporary protective coatings on mechanic objects by applying thereto an aqueous emulsion of a lipophilic poly(meth)acrylate polymer predominately including esters of alcohols having at least four carbon atoms and then removing said temporary coatings when desired with an organic solvent which, with the polymer dissolved therein, is conveniently disposed of by combustion.

Abstract: Water-soluble polymers or copolymers of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid which contain at least 50 base mole percent of these acids and as end groups hydrogen atoms, hydroxyl groups and moieties of a water-soluble mercaptan or moieties with a sulfoxide group formed therefrom are produced in a readily reproducible manner and free of mercaptan odor in aqueous solution by polymerization with an initiator system consisting of hydrogen peroxide, a water-soluble mercaptan and an iron salt and used as calcium-binding additives or as dispersants in aqueous systems.

Abstract: What is disclosed are a method for treating pelts or leather in the beamhouse, for tanning, or as an aftertreatment, which method comprises contacting said pelts or leather with an aqueous solution or dispersion of a copolymer comprising monomers of a nitrogenous ester of acrylic acid or of methacrylic acid, a further different ester of acrylic acid or of methacrylic acid, and acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, whereby portions of said copolymer are deposited in the grain layer without formation of a superficial film, and pelts and leather treated by this method.

Abstract: A method for polymerizing or copolymerizing water-soluble monomers, in a layer thickness between 2 and 100 mm, and at a temperature between 0.degree. C. and 100.degree. Abstract: Polymer dispersions in which an aqueous phase comprising a water-soluble polymer is dispersed in an organic liquid in the presence of a polymeric water-in-oil type dispersing agent containing salt-forming basic nitrogen atoms.
