  • Publication number: 20040203004
Abstract: A method of diagnosing cervical cancer in a patient infected with human papillomavirus-16 (HPV-16) is disclosed. The method comprises determining the presence or absence of methylation on CpG sites in the HPV-16 genome in a sample obtained from the patient. The more CpG sites on which methylation is absent the more indicative it is of cervical cancer. Also disclosed are primers and kits useful for carrying out the method. It is preferred that the methylation state of the CpG site at position 7862 of the HPV-16 genome is determined.
