Patent number: 9164950Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for displaying components assigned to events produced by resources, includes: registering a new resource by generating a label to which is associated a system specific device identifier used by the new resource within a computing environment; storing in a mapping table the generated label identifying the registered new resource together with an associated system specific device identifier; and updating the mapping table by associating to the label any other system specific device identifier used by the new resource within the computing environment; receiving events produced by resources when being executed within the computing environment, each event being associated with a list of labels for the resources relevant for the generation of the event; and maintaining a tag cloud including different tags, the different tags including labels for the resources associated with the received events to be displayed as components.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2013Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Oliver Augenstein, Joerg Erdmenger, Hans-Ulrich Oldengott, Thomas Prause, Martin Raitza

Patent number: 8566285Abstract: A method, system, and article to manage a backup procedure of one or more backup tasks in a computing system. A backup window within which the backup tasks are to be executed is defined, and the backup tasks within the backup window are scheduled. The process of the backup procedure is controlled during execution. The process of controlling the backup procedure includes calculating the prospective duration of all actually running and all future backup tasks, and cancelling low priority backup tasks in case a higher priority backup task is projected to continue beyond an end time (Tend) of the backup window.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2009Date of Patent: October 22, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ralf Altrichter, Oliver Augenstein, Stefan Huetter, Hans-Ulrich Oldengott

Publication number: 20120139924Abstract: The dynamic adaption of animation timeframes includes selecting animations to be displayed on a graphical user interface (GUI) and aligning the selected animations in a queue. An overall duration of time needed to display the selected animations in the queue is determined based on timeframes associated with the selected animations in the queue. The overall duration of time is compared with a predefined time value. If the overall duration of time is greater than the predefined time, a timeframe associated with at least one of the selected animations in the queue is reduced until the overall duration of time is less than or equal to the predefined time value. Each of the selected animations in the queue are sequentially displayed on the GUI for an amount of time that is based on the timeframes associated with the selected animations in the queue.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2011Publication date: June 7, 2012Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Hans-Ulrich Oldengott, Thomas Ritter, Hans-Christian Sperker

Patent number: 8140317Abstract: A simulation method and system. The method includes receiving by a simulation engine in a device driver, input simulation parameters data associated with a simulation process. The simulation engine calculates a simulated scaled down process time period for a device associated with the device driver. The simulation engine simulates the device. The simulation engine calculates an overall runtime period for the device. The overall runtime period is calculated based on the simulated scaled down process time period. The simulation engine transmits the overall runtime period to a simulator software application for generating an operating schedule for operating the device.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2008Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ralf Altrichter, Oliver Augenstein, Hans-Ulrich Oldengott

Patent number: 7657583Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for calculating a recovery time (tr) of an application system in a computer system. The mechanisms tune the computer system dynamically. A recovery time (tr) is calculated and controlled within flexible predefined time slices and compared to a predefined time period (t0). A trigger is set in the case in which the calculated recovery time (tr) exceeds the predefined time period (t0). The mechanisms determine a type of redolog used during a backup process and a corresponding recovery speed value associated with the type of redolog. The recovery time is calculated based on the type of redolog used during the backup process and the corresponding recovery speed value associated with the type of redolog.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 2005Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Joerg Erdmenger, Hans-Ulrich Oldengott
