Publication number: 20190232601Abstract: A protective material/structure is provided that reduces the risk of injury for a person after contact with said material/structure, and is based on a structure where an inner and outer shell can move relative to each other. The shells are separated by spikes or thin beams and the outer shell covers or envelops the spikes. The spikes or beams are constructed so that they permit displacement of the outer shell relative to the inner shell in the event of an oblique impact against the protective material/structure. The spikes or beams are designed to be thin/slim and can be made of flexible polymer materials such as plastics, rubber or fibers. This enables the spikes to give way after a tangential/rotational impact and thereby efficiently reduce the negative effects of such an impact on the brain.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 29, 2019Publication date: August 1, 2019Inventors: Svein KLEIVEN, Hans VON HOLST

Publication number: 20180116699Abstract: There is disclosed a composition formed by a reaction of at least one component A and at least one component B, wherein component A is selected from among a compound having at least two thiol-groups and a disulfide derivative of a compound having at least two thiol groups, and wherein component B is a compound having at least two vinyl reactive groups, for the manufacture of an implant for the treatment of a bone fracture. Advantages include that the adhesive patch formed by the composition will be solid in body fluid upon curing and will exhibit excellent mechanical strength. Advantages include that the composition is biocompatible, the material can be applied in small and inaccessible areas, the process requires less surgeon training, it solves drawback with open surgery, and it is possible to use cost effective materials and methods in the process.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2017Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Anders HULT, Michael MALKOCH, Hans VON HOLST, Axel NORDBERG

Patent number: 8029414Abstract: A finger glove for use in gripping movements with one or more fingers of a human hand enclosed in the glove. The glove includes glove fingers and a palm. At least one glove finger is adapted to include on each side an artificial tendon that extends along an inside of the glove. A yoke is fitted in a tip of the at least one glove finger and intended to surround a tip of an enclosed finger. At each side of the glove finger artificial tendons are connected to the yoke. A system including the finger glove having a force detecting sensor is situated on the inside of the at least one glove finger and is adapted to detect a force between a finger enclosed in the glove finger and a contact surface applied to the finger.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2007Date of Patent: October 4, 2011Assignee: Bioservo Technologies ABInventors: Johan Ingvast, Hans Von Holst, Jan Wikander

Publication number: 20090292198Abstract: A non-invasive method for measuring intracranial pressure (ICP) is provided. A numerical model such as finite element model is developed in order to calculate the ICP, strain or stress for patients who suffers from hematoma, edema or tumor. The method can further provide local maximum principle strain that can provide information about possible subsequent brain injury, such as diffuse axonal injury, in sensitive region of the brain. Based on computer tomography or magnetic resonance images an individual diagnosis and treatment plan can be formed for each patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2009Publication date: November 26, 2009Inventors: Svein Kleiven, Johnson Ho, Hans Von Holst

Patent number: 6658671Abstract: A protective helmet (1) has an outer shell (2) and an inner shell (3), the outer shell being displaceable relative to the inner shell by means of at last one sliding layer (4) arranged between the the outer shell and the inner shell. In the edge region of the helmet, the outer shell and the inner shell are interconnected by means of members (5), for absorbing energy on displacement of the outer shell on the inner shell. In this way, impact energy from an oblique impact against the helmet can be absorbed during displacement between the outer shell and the inner shell.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2002Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Neuroprevention Scandinavia ABInventors: Hans Von Holst, Peter Halldin

Patent number: 6520568Abstract: Method and device for protecting a person (2) traveling in a vehicle (1) by applying a protective arrangement the inside of the roof (4) of the vehicle (1). The inside of the roof (4) is equipped with an inner roof structure (5) in a place where the head (3) of the person (2) traveling in the vehicle is expected to make an impact in the event of an accident. The inner roof structure (5) is designed to guide the head (3) so that a flexion of the neck (6) of the person (2) traveling in the vehicle is initiated essentially simultaneously with the impact between the head (3) and the inside of the roof (4) during the accident. The device gives an improved protection of a person traveling in a vehicle (1), especially against head and neck injuries that occur when a person's head hits the inside of the roof (4) of the vehicle (1).Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2001Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Assignee: Volvo Personvagnar ABInventors: Hans von Holst, Carl-Axel Höjer, Peter Halldin, Camilla Palmerz
