  • Patent number: 8233150
Abstract: A sample sensor (200) for detecting a concentration of a sample in a sample mixture, the sample sensor (200) comprising a light source (101), a detector element, a processing section (106) and parameter measuring means. The light source (101) produces a light beam (113) for exciting molecules of the sample. The detector element detects an 5 amount of excited molecules of the sample and provides a detector current indicating the amount. The processing section (106) is coupled to the detector element (103) for processing the detector current to generate an output signal (109) representing the concentration. The processing section (106) comprises a temperature compensation module (112) being arranged for compensating for a temperature dependent wavelength shift of the light source (101) 10 based on at least one measured value of a temperature dependent parameter of the light source (101), other than an output wavelength. The parameter measuring means obtain the at least one measured value.

  • Publication number: 20020012192
Abstract: The invention relates to a magnetic tape (10) formatted by means of a magnetic emboss head (60), and an apparatus comprising a magnetic data head (20) which is movable in a transverse direction (y) by means of an actuator (40). By means of the magnetic emboss head (60) the magnetic tape (10) has been provided with a pattern of servotracks ST1-ST17 which extend in a longitudinal direction (x). The odd-numbered servotracks contain a first servosignal and the even-numbered servotracks contain a second servosignal which is in phase opposition to the first servosignal. The servotracks ST2-ST8 and ST10-ST16 have a typical width W1 and form a group of two bands of seven servotracks which are separated by a band having a typical width D=(k+½)W1, where k=0, 1, 2 etc.

  • Patent number: 6317302
Abstract: A thin-film magnetic read head device comprises an end face extending in a first direction, in which a magnetic information carrier is movable with respect to the magnetic head device, and in a second direction, perpendicular to said first direction. The magnetic head device further comprises a multilayer structure with at least two soft-magnetic layers separated by a magnetic insulation layer and with at least one exchange biasing layer, which multilayer structure extends in the second direction and in a third direction, perpendicular to the first and the second direction, and forms at least one flux path in the first and the third direction. The exchange coupling between one of the soft-magnetic layers and the exchange biasing layer is at least partly reduced locally, i.e. interrupted or at least substantially reduced, in at least the second direction, while the exchange biasing layer extends uninterruptedly in the region of said reductions.

  • Patent number: 5982591
Abstract: Integrated, juxtaposed head units of a magnetic head have transducing gaps directly adjacent a central plane transverse to the longitudinal direction of relative movement of a magnetic recording medium, adjacent transducing gaps being to opposite sides of the central plane. Head units adjoin each other so that a recording channel density of 100% is achieved. In one embodiment a common electrical conductor passes through a plurality of head units to one side of the central plane, and electrical connection tracks extending from a portion of the conductor form inductive transducing elements.

  • Patent number: 5952094
Abstract: The addition of Os or Re to the Co layers of a magneto-optical recording medium comprising a Co/X multilayer, where X=Pt, Pd, Au, Ni or Ru, results in a reduction of both the Curie temperature and the magnetization. By virtue thereof, the rewritability of the medium is improved and higher write frequencies can be employed.

  • Patent number: 5890278
Abstract: Method of manufacturing a multilayer thin film magnetic head having reproducibly narrow gap widths, by:providing a stepped non-magnetic basic layer;providing a stepped magnetically permeable layer on the stepped basic layer;providing a stepped non-magnetic layer on the magnetically permeable layer;planarizing the structure to a level to expose the stepped part of the first magnetically permeable layer in the planarized surface, so that the thickness of the first magnetically permeable layer determines the width of the transducing gap of the magnetic head which is being formed.

  • Patent number: 5756202
Abstract: Magneto-optical recording medium comprising a substrate and a recording multilayer, the recording multilayer having perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and comprising layers of a first kind, which are principally comprised of Co, alternately stacked with layers of a second kind, which comprise metal other than Co, successive layers of the first kind being ferromagnetically coupled across interposed layers of the second kind, whereby at least one of the layers of the second kind which is bounded on both sides by layers of the first kind is substituted by a coupling structure comprising at least one layer of antiferromagnetic coupling material, across which coupling structure the immediately adjacent layers of the first kind are antiferromagnetically coupled. Such a magneto-optical recording medium is suitable for super-resolution data storage and retrieval, and for a direct overwrite procedure which does not involve magnetic field modulation.
