  • Patent number: 4294117
Abstract: A sample charger for a gas chromatograph has a charging chamber constructed for connection to the separating column of the gas chromatograph and receives a sample container in the form of a tube by the lengthwise insertion of a rod-shaped sample holder which comprises a hollow insertion tube, in which the sample container is releasably secured at its forward end. The charging chamber and insertion tube have carrier-gas inlet openings so that the interior of the insertion tube and the sample container can be scavenged with inert gas during the insertion process and, after the sample container has been completely inserted into the charging chamber, the carrier gas flows through the container into the separating column.

  • Patent number: 4226119
Abstract: A sample introduction system for a gas chromatograph having a chamber containing a needle for piercing a sample held in a holder and introduced into the chamber via a lock. The needle has a conical point into which a passageway opens perpendicular thereto, the passageway communicating directly with a separating column connected to the chamber. The needle is so shaped that as the sample is pushed onto the point over the entrance to the passageway the sample is sealed against the conical surface and on further penetration of the needle a gap is formed between the needle and the sample to allow ingress of a carrier gas supplied to the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4185500
Abstract: A sample introduction system for a gas chromatograph having a chamber, a lock and a sample holder for introducing a sample via the lock into the chamber which has a needle for piercing the sample to allow a carrier gas introduced into the chamber access to the sample. The sample holder is hollow and has at that end remote from the end which holds the sample and communicating therewith, a pressure control valve so that a rise in pressure can be avoided as the sample is introduced into the lock and then the chamber.
