Patent number: 11187698Abstract: A living plant can function as self-powered auto-samplers and preconcentrators of an analyte within ambient groundwater, detectors of the analyte contained therein. For example, a pair of near infrared (IR) fluorescent sensors embedded within the mesophyll of the plant leaf can be used as detectors of the nitroaromatic molecules, with the first IR channel engineered through CoPhMoRe to recognize analyte via an IR fluorescent emission and the second IR channel including a functionalized nanostructure that acts as an invariant reference signal.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2016Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Assignee: MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGYInventors: Michael S. Strano, Juan Pablo Giraldo Gomez, Seongyeon Kwak, Min Hao Wong

Patent number: 10057442Abstract: Printing a graphic media product is described. The media product has an indicia marked on a media substrate. An installation of a supply of the media substrate is detected. A sensor is activated based on the detection of the installation. The activated sensor measures a width of the installed media substrate. A center position of the media substrate is computed based on the measured width. The marking of the indicia upon the media substrate is aligned relative to the computed center position of the media substrate.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2018Date of Patent: August 21, 2018Assignee: Intermec Technologies CorporationInventors: Boon Hao Wong, Sze Ping Ching

Patent number: 8856194Abstract: A method and system for garbage collection in a virtualization environment. The virtualization environment includes a virtual machine hypervisor, at least one guest operating system, and at least one application program that runs on each guest operating system. The application program performs memory management using a garbage collection mechanism. The method includes, in response to an operating environment of the application program initiating garbage collection, the garbage collector requesting the guest operating system to assign a memory space and in response, the guest operating system assigns the memory space to the garbage collector. Then garbage collector marks live objects in an original memory space of the application program, and replicates the marked live objects to the assigned memory space. Finally, the garbage collector releases the original memory space of the application program to the guest operating system.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2011Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ying Chen, Li Li, Liang Liu, Rui Xiong Tian, Hao Wong, Qing Bo Wang
