  • Publication number: 20160045859
Abstract: A process for separating components of a gas mixture using gas-separation copolymer membranes. These membranes use a selective layer made from copolymers of partially fluorinated or perfluorinated dioxolane monomers and a second monomer, such as dioxane or a partially fluorinated dioxolane. The resulting membranes have superior selectivity performance for gas pairs of interest while maintaining fast gas permeance compared to membranes prepared using conventional perfluoropolymers, such as Teflon® AF, Hyflon® AD, and Cytop®.

  • Patent number: 9263748
Abstract: A membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for a fuel cell which exhibits enhanced reversal tolerance. In particular, a layer of iridium or an iridium compound, preferably metallic iridium or iridium oxide supported on TiO2, is provided on the anode to electrolyze available water and pass the majority of the current during a reversal of the fuel cell, thereby preventing damage to the MEA. The iridium or iridium compound is applied to an anode structure according to a predetermined pattern, with only part of the anode active area containing Ir. The parts of the MEA that do not contain Ir are not expected to suffer degradation from Ir cross-over, so that overall degradation of the cell will be diminished. Having less precious metals will also translate into less cost.

  • Patent number: 9243598
Abstract: Methods are provided for finding the bulk modulus of a fuel used in the direct injection system of an internal combustion engine. A method is needed to continuously monitor and reliably calculate the fuel's bulk modulus during engine operation on-board the vehicle, where the fuel's bulk modulus may be used to infer the ratio of fuels in a fuel mixture or determine the density of supercritical propane when propane is used as the injected fuel. To find the fuel's bulk modulus on-board a vehicle, methods are proposed that involve monitoring and recording fuel rail pressures, high pressure pump duty cycles, and fractional liquid volume pumped values in order to find zero flow relationships.

  • Publication number: 20150326246
Abstract: A method for collecting a signal with a frequency lower than a Nyquist frequency includes, by a data transmitting end, selecting a suitable transformation base matrix for an input signal, deriving a sparse representation of the signal using the transformation base matrix to determine a sparsity of the signal, calculating a number M of compressive sampling operations according to the sparsity, sampling the signal with fNYQ/M using M channels, and integrating sampling values of each channel to obtain M measurement values. A reconstruction end reconstructs an original signal by solving optimization problems. Based on theory, compressive sampling can be performed on a sparse signal or a signal represented in a sparse manner with a frequency much lower than the Nyquist frequency, overcoming restrictions of the typical Nyquist sampling theorem. The method can be implemented simply and decrease pressure on data collection, storage, transmission and processing.
