Patent number: 10710033Abstract: This disclosure includes mixers and methods of mixing. Some mixers comprise at least one contacting element, each defining at least one mixing channel. Each of the mixing channel(s) can have a cross-sectional area that decreases in a downstream direction to accelerate any pipe fluid flowing through the mixing channel. The contacting surface of each of the mixing channel(s) can deflect at least a portion of any pipe fluid flowing through the mixing channel until the contacting surface ends at an edge at a point of maximum constriction. Each of the contacting element(s) can define one or more injection path(s) to at least one of the contacting surface(s), each configured to inject admixture fluid onto the contacting surface such that the admixture fluid is entrained by pipe fluid over the edge.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2016Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: PRODUCED WATER ABSORBENTS, INC.Inventors: Harald Linga, Finn P. Patent number: 7273513Abstract: The use of turbulent contactors to simultaneously absorb selected acid gas components from a gas stream and flash off hydrocarbons entrained in a liquid stream which include a solvent or reagent for the selected gas component. In particular, the method comprises feeding the gas stream and liquid stream into a first contactor where they are contacted co-currently and subjected to turbulent mixing conditions, and passing the multi-phase flow from the first contactor to a second contactor. The multi-phase flow from the second contactor is subsequently separated into a gas phase and a liquid phase.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2002Date of Patent: September 25, 2007Assignee: Statoil ASAInventors: Harald Linga, Inge Sverre Lund Nilsen, Finn Patrick Nilsen, Trond Olav Høyland

Patent number: 7128276Abstract: The use of a turbulent contactor to absorb a selected gas component from a gas stream. The invention particularly applies to a method of distributing a liquid into a gas stream which comprises providing a liquid to an annulus at the periphery of a pipe in which a gas stream is flowing, the gas flow drawing the liquid into a film along the inner surface of the pipe to a sharp edge at the end of the pipe at which point the liquid breaks off the surface of the pipe and mixes intimately with the gas.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2001Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: Statoil ASAInventors: Finn Patrick Nilsen, Harald Linga, Rune Fantoft, Inge Sverre Lund Nilsen, Geir Inge Eide

Patent number: 7018451Abstract: A method of removing acid gas components from a gas mixture. Certain embodiments of the method involve bringing the gas mixture into contact with a liquid solvent or reagent for the acid gases in a first turbulent contactor and subjecting the gas mixture and liquid to turbulent mixing conditions. This causes the acid gas to be absorbed by the solvent or reagent. The fluid mixture is passed into a second turbulent contactor and subjected to further turbulent mixing conditions causing further acid gas to be absorbed by the solvent or reagent. Optionally the fluid mixture is separated into a gas phase and liquid phase.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2000Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Statoil ASAInventors: Bernt H. Torkildsen, Martin Sigmundstad, Harald Linga, Finn P. Nilsen

Patent number: 6699308Abstract: A system for removing water from natural gas which comprises: bringing the natural gas into contact with a liquid including an absorbent for the water; subjecting the natural gas and liquid to turbulent mixing conditions thereby causing the water to be absorbed by the absorbent; and separating a natural gas phase with reduced water content and a liquid phase including the absorbent and absorbed water. The mixing is conducted in a turbulent contactor (11) including a gas inlet (15), a liquid inlet (16), an outlet (104) leading to a venturi passage (105) and a tube (106) extending from the outlet (104) back upstream. The tube (106) may be perforated and/or spaced from the periphery of the outlet (104).Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2002Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Statoil ASAInventors: Finn Patrick Nilsen, Harald Linga

Patent number: 6284023Abstract: A method for removing acid gas components from combustion gas and natural gas. The method includes bringing the gas mixture into contact with sea water and subjecting the gas mixture and sea water to turbulent mixing conditions. This causes the acid gas to be absorbed by the sea water. The sea water can be disposed of offshore without any detrimental effect on the environment.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2000Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Assignee: Den Norske Stats Oljeselskap A.S.Inventors: Bernt H. Patent number: 5971604Abstract: A mixer for a fluid flow in a pipe connection, especially for homogenizing a multiphase flow, has a housing to be inserted in the pipe connection for the fluid to flow through. In the housing there are at least one and preferably two or more adjoining and individually displaceable regulating elements having cooperating wall portions with flow passages. At an upstream side radial flow passages cause the fluid to converge into a central chamber. In the cooperating wall portions, a number of flow channels can be aligned or misaligned with one another and/or the inlet and outlet openings to regulate and control flow by movement of the regulating elements. The regulating elements also define a full cross-section opening at 90.degree. to the flow passages, which can clear the passage between the inlet and outlet for passage of a pipe pig.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1996Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Assignee: Sinvent A/SInventors: Harald Linga, Gisle Onsrud, Jan Richard Sagli
