  • Patent number: 6989828
Abstract: Plasma Display Panels (PDP) are becoming more and more interesting for TV technology. One important criterion for picture quality is the Peak White Enhancement Factor (PWEF). From a previous patent application of the applicant it is known to have a table of power level modes in a control unit for the display device. The average picture power value is measured and a corresponding power level mode will be selected from the table for sub-field coding. The power level modes have been made variable in respect to a number of parameters, namely: the number of sub-fields the sub-field type the sub-field positioning the sub-field weight the sub-field pre-scaling a factor for the sub-field weights which is used to vary the amount of small pulses generated during each sub-field. According to the invention it is now proposed to use one or both of the following parameters in addition for varying the power level modes: the sustain frequency the sustain pulse slope.

  • Patent number: 5673184
Abstract: Switch mode power supplies produce a brief pulse-like load on the mains and have a high harmonic content. Such a high harmonic load on the mains is undesirable. There are increasingly strict regulations for the level of harmonic loads connected to the mains. The present switch mode power supply includes a series circuit formed by an inductor and a diode connected between a charge capacitor, which is dimensioned to be relatively small, and a pickoff of a primary winding of a transformer of the switch mode power supply. A relatively large energy storage capacitor connected to the primary winding is decoupled from the charge capacitor by a second diode. The series circuit produces an additional charging current, which extends the current which is drawn from the mains during one half cycle of the mains voltage, and reduces the amplitude of the current.

  • Patent number: 5548199
Abstract: A method of supplying optimal power for an alternating current electric motor driven by a direct/alternating and alternating/direct/alternating static frequency converter including a device for implementing the method. In particular, the method supplies optimal power for an inductive-type load coupled to an application with the load being driven by a static converter controlled by an electronic module. The method involves delivering power to the load by setting parameters which are applied to the controls of the converter and by noting the direction of variation around an extreme, corresponding to a minimum power absorbed by the load on the basis of one or more monitoring parameters which are weighted and/or combined together.

  • Patent number: 5497313
Abstract: A switching method and apparatus for increasing the efficiency of an inductive motor. A switching device connects, according to a PWM process, a D.C. voltage (E) to an inductive motor creating a low-frequency contribution UmLF rising from 0V to the peak voltage at the beginning of each half period T/2. The peak voltage is maintained for at least one sixth of a period T/6 creating a plateau and, then, the switching device connects, according to the PWM process, the D.C. voltage (E) to the inductive motor for the remainder of the half period T/2 creating a low frequency contribution UmLF declining from the peak voltage to 0V. With this arrangement, motor vibration is reduced and efficiency is increased.
