Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for automatically cutting and retrieving for inspection a sample length of coiled material from an inner tab region of a wound coil using a machine having a motorized roller apparatus supporting and driving the wound coil. A machining arm including a cutter is introduced within the wound coil for cutting a given radial thickness of the coiled material in the inner tab region. The machining arm is withdrawn, and a specimen extraction arm having substantially "C"-shaped elements is introduced within the wound coil. The "C"-shaped elements may each have a pointed limb, which in use serves to pry out the sample length of coiled material in the inner tab region, and break the sample length loose from the wound coil in the region of the cut provided by the cutter. The extraction arm is withdrawn when the retrieving elements bring the sample length of coiled material out for inspection.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to an apparatus for the manufacture of hollow cylindrical bodies by deposit welding, consisting of a supporting body rotatably mounted on bearings at both ends and a hollow cylindrical basic body concentric to the supporting body being supported by said supporting body means of circumferentially arranged radially spacing members. According to the disclosure the spacing members are elastically flexible.

Abstract: A heating arrangement is provided for apparatus for producing cylindrical bodies by build-up welding wherein the diameter of the body being produced varies during the build-up welding operation. The heating arrangement is composed of individual heating elements arranged in the region of a sector around the revolving body with the heating elements being controlled both individually and in groups.

Abstract: Apparatus for producing cylindrical bodies by building-up weld material thereon utilizing a submerged arc welding process includes a plurality of welding heads movable along the cylindrical body parallel to the axis thereof, and devices for supplying welding wire and welding powder to respective welding heads of the apparatus. A welding head carriage and a separate supply carriage supporting, respectively, each of the welding heads and the welding wire and powder supply units are provided, and drive mechanisms are also provided separately for each welding head carriage and supply unit carriage.
