  • Patent number: 7633970
Abstract: A method of generating an aggregate frame having a header unit, which carries MAC-header information applicable to one or more data units of said aggregate frame. Since each data unit of the aggregate frame no longer needs to carry the full MAC-header information, the overhead associated with the MAC header can be significantly reduced. At the receiver, the full MAC header corresponding to the data unit is reconstructed by (i) matching the appropriate header and data units to one another and (ii) combining the information present in the header unit and the compressed header portion of the data unit. Embodiments of the present invention are capable of improving the data throughput, for example, in an entertainment network having paired source and destination devices (e.g., a DVD player and an LCD screen) with a relatively large amount of data streamed from the former to the latter.

  • Patent number: 7551592
Abstract: A power management method, in which creation of deliver opportunities for a wireless station (STA) of a WLAN system is managed using a designated sub-field of the frame control field in a MAC header. In one embodiment, the STA is adapted (i) to use the power management sub-field to communicate its power state to the access point (AP) and (ii) to run a periodicity timer, which starts when the STA has transitioned to the doze state. The STA transitions to the awake state either when it has a data frame available for transmission to the AP or when the periodicity timer runs out. In another embodiment, the AP and STA create deliver opportunities by entering a new mode of operation referred to as interactive traffic power management (ITPM) mode, during which the power management sub-field is ignored and the more data sub-field is used to communicate the power state and manage transitions of the STA between the awake and doze states.

  • Patent number: 7515913
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for automatically detecting when an operating channel needs to be changed in a wireless communication system. An alternate channel is selected by obtaining information about a plurality of available channels; assigning a score to each available channel; and selecting an alternate channel from the available channels based on the assigned score. The state of the selected alternate channel and the current channel are compared. A change to the selected alternate channel is initiated when one or more predefined criteria are satisfied.

  • Publication number: 20080139212
Abstract: The various embodiments provide a mobile station having at least a first and a second radio transceivers wherein a medium access control (MAC) layer framework coordinates the transmission and reception of the at least a first and a second transceiver systems. In addition, the various embodiments employ asynchronous connectionless links (ACL) for voice traffic on a Bluetoothâ„¢ link rather than SCO links. A central scheduler (305) interfaces with a first MAC layer (311) and a second MAC layer (321). By interacting with the MAC layers of both systems, the central scheduler (305) collects traffic information from both PHY layers at the buffer (309), including transmission/reception timing, and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for voice traffic. Based upon the collected information the central scheduler (305) will schedule transmissions by both systems in a non-time-overlapping manner so as to avoid radio frequency interference.

  • Publication number: 20080062957
Abstract: A first adjustment range of a first scheduled occurrence of a first transmission event associated with a first data service is determined based on a first transmission interval of the first data service and a non-zero first interval adjustment tolerance. A second adjustment range of a second scheduled occurrence of a second transmission event associated with a second data service is determined based on a second transmission interval of the second data service and a second interval adjustment tolerance. An activation period is determined at a wireless device based on an alignment of the first transmission event and the second transmission event in response to the first adjustment range and the second adjustment range being concurrent and the wireless device activates a wireless interface for the activation period.

  • Patent number: 7254367
Abstract: A method and mechanism for quickly and easily connecting wireless consumer electronic devices with each other without affecting other wireless devices in the vicinity, by bringing devices into close proximity while in a whisper mode of communication. In whisper mode, the reception and/or transmission capability is significantly reduced, limiting the distance over which the devices communicate, allowing for secure exchange of communications parameters The parameters exchanged in whisper mode may be used to enable unique, paired communication between the two devices, or between one of them and any other device already connected to a common network, when operating in their normal mode of operation, separated by any distance within the normal operational range of the devices.

  • Patent number: 6233126
Abstract: Thin film magnetic head has magnetoresistive element (23) and flux-guiding elements (117a,117b) of a material having a relatively high magnetic permeability, and an intermediate layer between the magnetoresistive element and the flux-guiding elements, the intermediate layer (21) being electrically insulating, and having a relatively low magnetic permeability of between 1.1 and 25. The low permeability intermediate layer increases the magnetic flux between the magnetoresistive element and the flux-guiding elements, and thereby improves the efficiency of the magnetic head.
