  • Publication number: 20200100151
Abstract: Handover criteria for wireless networks are provided. A base station (BS) transmits, to a user equipment (UE), a configuration for at least one measurement event to be used for a handover of the UE from a source cell to one of a set of neighbor cells, wherein the configuration includes at least a configured rank criterion for triggering a measurement report in response to the measurement event. The BS receives, from the UE, the measurement report based on the configuration, the measurement report at least including a measured rank value for one or more reported cells in the set. The BS selects a target cell from the reported cells for the handover based at least on the received measured rank values, and transmits a handover command to the UE for the handover to the selected target.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer-readable mediums for wireless communication are disclosed by the present disclosure. In an example, a user equipment (UE) may be located on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The UE may monitor at least one of an elevation of the UE or a number of cells detected by the UE. The UE may determine that the elevation of the UE exceeds an elevation threshold or the number of cells detected by the UE exceeds a cell threshold. The UE may determine a current communication mode of the UE. The UE may switch to a directional transmit mode, in response to determining that the current communication mode is an omnidirectional transmit mode and at least one of the elevation of the UE exceeds the elevation threshold or the number of cells detected by the UE exceeds the cell threshold.

  • Patent number: 10356755
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus relating to intelligent resource assignment to increase throughput in LTE multiple input multiple output (MIMO) and carrier aggregation (CA) capable devices. In certain aspects, a MIMO and CA capable wireless communication device communicates with a base station (BS) on multiple component carriers (CCs) through multiple radio frequency (RF) chains. In such aspects, the device tentatively switches one or more first RF chains, not assigned to a first CC of the multiple CCs, to the first CC for evaluating a rank of the first CC. The device then determines that the first CC has a higher rank indication (RI) with the one or more RF chains. The device subsequently evaluates one or more performance factors, in conjunction with the higher rank, based on which the device then additionally assigns one or more second RF chains to the first CC.

  • Publication number: 20180295581
Abstract: A method of operating a wireless device includes determining to operate the wireless device in a discontinuous reception (DRX) mode of operation such that a receiver of the wireless device is expected to operate in a low-power state during a scheduled low-power period of time and the receiver is expected to operate in an active-power state during a scheduled active-power period of time. The wireless device schedules a measurement of a positioning signal using the receiver. The measurement is scheduled to occur during a scheduled measurement period of time. The scheduled measurement period of time at least partially overlaps with at least one of the scheduled low-power period of time or the scheduled active-power period of time. The wireless device operates the wireless device in the DRX mode of operation after scheduling the measurement and before a start of the scheduled measurement period of time.

  • Patent number: 9949224
Abstract: A method includes performing a timing measurement of one or more positioning signals received at a mobile device and searching for available public land mobile networks (PLMNs) by the mobile device. The method also includes controlling the performing the timing measurement and the searching for the available PLMNs based on whether the performing the timing measurement or the searching for the available PLMNs began first and further based on a number of available receive paths on the mobile device. If the number of available receive paths can support it, timing measurements of one or more received positioning signals may be performed concurrently with searching for available public land mobile networks (PLMNs). Otherwise, if the receive paths cannot support concurrent timing measurement and PLMN searching, the PLMN search is put on hold or suspended and the timing measurements are allowed. Upon completion, the PLMN search may then begin or resume.

  • Publication number: 20180063765
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A mobile device may receive a measurement configuration relating to signal measurements (e.g., neighboring cells, carriers, frequencies, etc.) which are performed by the mobile device in support of mobility and other behaviors. The mobile device may prioritize the signal measurements based on historic or crowd-sourced information. When a measurement procedure is unsuccessful, the mobile device may exclude a corresponding object from its measurement configuration in order to increase the likelihood of performing successful measurements involving other such objects. Objects from the measurement configuration may be excluded temporarily or permanently. Measurement objects may be prioritized based on past successful measurements, a location of the wireless device, and/or depending on whether they were previously excluded. The mobile device may report successful measurements to the base station.
