    Abstract: A method of preparing a mixture of a metal or metal alloy and (NbxTi1-x)C (where 0<x?1) in which (NbxTi1-x)C in particulate form (either with or without metal powder) is formed into a preform and then if necessary added to the metal. The resulting (NbxTi1-x)C/metal mixture can then be heated to a temperature below the melting point of the (NbxTi1-x)C and optionally dispersed in liquid metal and/or casted and cooled to produce a solid product with improved physical properties.
