  • Publication number: 20230305871
Abstract: A method and system for estimating upgrade time and mitigating errors when updating a virtualized computing system. Operations of this method include, but are not necessarily limited to the following (and not necessarily in the following order): (i) identify updates needed by a system; (ii) compare the system to be updated to other systems to determine similar systems that already had the similar updates; (iii) project the time to complete the update based on the performance characteristics of the system to be updated, the performance characteristics of the similar systems that have already been updated, and the time taken to update the similar systems; (iv) identify errors that occurred when updating the similar systems and the corresponding error resolutions; and (v) pre-emptively apply configuration changes or other error resolutions to the system to be updated.

  • Patent number: 10360058
Abstract: An approach to optimizing Virtual Machine (VM) migration is provided, the approach involves receiving a request to migrate a first VM from a first server to a second server, selecting a first Input/Output (I/O) virtualization component associated with the first server and a second I/O virtualization component associated with the second server for migrating the first VM, creating a map of network adapters associated with the first and second I/O virtualization components, selecting first network adapters associated with the first I/O virtualization component and second network adapters associated with the second I/O virtualization based, at least in part, on the map of network adapters and sending an indication of the selected first and second I/O virtualization components and the selected first and second network adapters to be used for migrating the first VM.

  • Publication number: 20180150331
Abstract: A method for determining and managing computing resources within a virtualized computing environment in response to restarting a set of partitions. The method includes at least one computer processor identifying a set of partitions affected by an event within a first computing system, the set of affected partitions is identified for restart. The method further includes creating a set of temporary partitions within a network accessible second computing system that correspond the affected set of partitions of the first computing system. The method further includes determining one or more sets of computing resources, of the second computing system, corresponding to the created temporary partitions. The method further includes deleting the set of temporary partitions. The method further includes provisioning a set of partitions within the second computing system based, at least in part, on the determined one or more sets of computing resources corresponding to the affected set of partitions.

  • Patent number: 9846602
Abstract: Embodiments disclose techniques for migrating a logical partition from a source computing system with an inactive I/O server to another target computing system. In one embodiment, a computing system collects and stores the resource configuration of the logical partition, upon detecting a change in a resource configuration of a logical partition on the source computing system. Once the computing system detects that a I/O server on the source computing system is inactive for a migration of the logical partition, the computing system uses the collected resource configuration to configure the logical partition on the target computing system.
