Publication number: 20120263826Abstract: Comestible products, for example beverage products, are disclosed containing encapsulated probiotic bacteria having resistance to subjection to at least thermal and acidic conditions. Beverage products include at least one aqueous liquid and capsules comprising a gelled mixture of alginate and denatured protein, and probiotic bacteria entrapped within the gelled mixture. The average particle size of the capsules is optionally less than 1000 microns (?m) in diameter, such as less than 500 ?m in diameter. Methods are provided for making such encapsulated probiotics by providing a mixture comprising sodium alginate, denatured protein and active probiotic cells, and combining the mixture with a divalent cation to initiate cold gelation of the sodium alginate and denatured protein to form a second mixture. The second mixture is passed through an opening having a diameter of less than 1000 ?m to form capsules. The weight ratio of protein to alginate is from 1:1 to 9:1.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2011Publication date: October 18, 2012Applicants: MASSEY UNIVERSITY, PEPSICO, INC.Inventors: Yuan Fang, Breda Kennedy, Teodoro Rivera, Kyoung-Sik Han, Anil Kumar Anal, Harjinder Singh

Publication number: 20080305235Abstract: The invention provides a process for preparing a dried modified whey protein concentrate. A whey protein solution is used having less than 5% total solids and a combined calcium and magnesium concentration of less than 70 mmol/kg on a dry basis and a pH of 6.0-7.5. It is heated to greater than 70° C. for up to 60 minutes to denature the whey protein. The solution is then cooled to 40° C.-60° C.; and subsequently spray dried. Alternatively a higher initial concentration of total solids may be used in an embodiment where the heating is carried out on a scraped surface heat exchanger.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2005Publication date: December 11, 2008Applicant: FONTERRA CO-OPERATIVE GROUPInventors: Hongping Gao, Palatasa Havea, Harjinder Singh

Patent number: 6497128Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fuel rail for use in a fuel delivery system, such as for an engine in a vehicle, includes the initial hydroforming step to deform a central portion of a workpiece to have one or more outwardly extending node portions, followed by a subsequent hydroforming step to deform one or more end portions of the workpiece to have additional outwardly extending node portions. To do this, a pair of pressure feed pistons are disposed within the interior of the workpiece and have head portions that sealingly engage the inner surface of the workpiece so as to define a pressure chamber therein. Pressurized fluid is introduced into the pressure chamber so as to deform a portion thereof into conformance with the portion of the die cavity located within the pressure chamber. Then, the pressure feed pistons are moved to re-define the pressure chamber within the workpiece. Pressurized fluid is again introduced into the enlarged pressure chamber so as to deform other portions of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2001Date of Patent: December 24, 2002Assignee: Dana CorporationInventors: James C.
