  • Patent number: 5573118
Abstract: A nestable open head container has a generally circular tapered sidewall and an enlarged diameter nesting ring which prevents the lids of adjacent containers from contacting each other during shipping and provides a nesting seat adjacent the top of the sidewall. When inserting a second container into a first container to nest them, the nesting seat of the second container contacts the rim of the first container to limit the depth of insertion of the second container. This maintains a gap between the containers when nested and substantially reduces the frictional engagement between them. A banding channel is formed in the container to receive a substantially inextensible band that releasably secures at least two containers adjacent to each other for increased stability of a package of containers during shipping.

  • Patent number: 5402909
Abstract: A drum for liquids with a generally cylindrical sidewall and a drainage system in each end wall. One end wall has a peripheral channel opening into a sump from which substantially all the of liquid in the drum can be removed through a dip tube received in the sump and connected to a siphon or a pump. The other end wall has another sump located adjacent the sidewall with a tapered portion extending between them so that when the barrel is turned upside down substantially all of its contents can be drained by gravity through a bunghole in the sump. A plug is removably threaded in the bunghole which preferably overlaps and is generally axially aligned with the sump in the other end wall to facilitate inserting the dip tube.

  • Patent number: 4927040
Abstract: A plastic drum comprising a side wall, a bottom wall and a top wall having an opening therein and a plastic stem fusion bonded to the inner surface of the base wall in general alignment with the opening such that a dispensing tube can be inserted through the opening with the lower end of the tube engaging the stem to hold the dispensing tube in position adjacent the bottom wall. The plastic drum is made by heating the base of the plastic stem at an elevated temperature and inserting the heated stem into contact with the inner surface of the base of the drum as the hot drum is removed from the plastic forming machine where it has been blown outwardly from a hollow parison in conformity with a mold.
