  • Publication number: 20070066716
Abstract: An improved nonpolar thermoplastic composition includes an inorganic particulate dispersed in a nonpolar thermoplastic, for example, an inorganic pigment such as titanium dioxide dispersed in a polyolefin as a color concentrate, wherein the inorganic particulate includes a surface coating comprised of at least one of the polar phosphate esters including acid and polar ether groups.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 19, 2005
    Publication date: March 22, 2007
Inventors: Daniel Craig, John Eager, Jeffrey Elliott, Michael Kidder, George Perakis, Harmon Ray
  • Publication number: 20070066715
Abstract: Processes are disclosed for treating an inorganic particulate to provide improved dispersibility in a nonpolar thermoplastic, for example, titanium dioxide as an opacifier or colorant in a polyolefin concentrate, and for producing said pigmented nonpolar thermoplastic, wherein a surface coating is applied to the particulate which comprises at least one of the polar phosphate esters containing acid and polar ether groups.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 19, 2005
    Publication date: March 22, 2007
Inventors: Daniel Craig, John Eager, Jeffrey Elliott, Michael Kidder, George Perakis, Harmon Ray
  • Publication number: 20060048677
Abstract: Processes are disclosed for treating an inorganic particulate to provide improved dispersibility in a thermoplastic, for example, titanium dioxide as an opacifier or colorant in a polyolefin concentrate, and for producing said pigmented thermoplastic, wherein a surface coating is applied to the particulate which comprises at least one N-acyl amino acid or N-acyl amino acid salt.

  • Publication number: 20060048674
Abstract: Processes are disclosed for treating an inorganic particulate to provide improved dispersibility in a thermoplastic, for example, titanium dioxide as an opacifier or colorant in a polyolefin concentrate, and for producing said pigmented thermoplastic, wherein a surface coating is deposited on the particulate which comprises at least one N,N,N-trialkyl quaternary amino acid inner salt.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 7, 2004
    Publication date: March 9, 2006
Inventors: Daniel Craig, Jeffrey Elliott, George Perakis, Harmon Ray
  • Publication number: 20060045841
Abstract: A process is disclosed for making titanium dioxide pigment particularly suited for dispersion in thermoplastics, in which the titanium dioxide pigment is recoverable from a slurry through the use of conventional vacuum-type and/or pressure-type filtration systems without the deposition of additional inorganic oxides and in the absence of added flocculating agents, and further in which the thus-recovered, washed and filtered pigment can be dried by spray drying, without the dilution required in the production of such pigments according to a prior art process likewise omitting the deposition of additional inorganic oxides to those formed in a vapor phase oxidation step providing the agglomerated titanium dioxide starting material and omitting any use of added flocculating agents.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 30, 2004
    Publication date: March 2, 2006
Inventors: Daniel Craig, Jeffrey Elliott, George Perakis, Harmon Ray
