  • Patent number: 6927684
Abstract: A remotely activated control device responsive to a specific transmitter operating in a frequency band assigned to radio telephone equipment, such as cellular telephone networks, cordless telephones, etc. The control device includes a radio receiver which provides a received pulse train to an assurance logic circuit. The assurance logic circuit determines if the received pulse train is limited to no more than a transmitter identification code and an action code, the combination of which is less than the code required to activate a relay network or initiate a radio telephone connection. Pulse trains accepted by the assurance logic circuit are compared to a stored code by a comparitor. The stored code includes the identification of a specific transmitter or group of transmitters and at least one action code. If the received pulse train matches the stored code, a switching circuit is activated to control a user supplied device.

  • Publication number: 20020096172
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the pressure within a waterproof case relative to the external ambient pressure of the source of pressurizing gas. The pressurizing gas is supplied by a variable volume reservoir pneumatically connected to the case and control is maintained by positioning the case relative to the plain of the source of pressurizing gas. When the reservoir of pressurizing gas is reduced in volume by an increase in ambient water pressure to thereby increase the internal pressure of the system according to Boyle's Law, the pressure increase is coupled to the waterproof case. Thus if the waterproof case is positioned below the reservoir, the pressure within the case will be less than ambient. Conversely, if the case is positioned above the reservoir, the pressure within the case will be greater than ambient. The preferred gas reservoir is the diver's rebreather or buoyancy compensation system.

  • Patent number: 5500237
Abstract: A coffee roaster which roasts coffee beans in a removable oven chamber employing both radiant and convection heating techniques while the beans are continually intermixed in a fluidized bed rotating in the horizontal plane. Roaster control means are provided to terminate the roasting process by quenching the beans and oven chamber with relative cool air while maintaining the beans in a fluidized bed to avoid scorching or further roasting by the residual heat of the coffee bean mass. The oven chamber is provided with an insulated handle to facilitate its removal from the heating chamber for dispensing roasted coffee beans. It includes an upper transparent section through which the roasted charge of beans may be viewed to thereby facilitate poring beans from the removed chamber.

  • Patent number: 5384593
Abstract: A method and apparatus for conditioning a blink reaction of a person using a computer terminal display. Blinking is selectively triggered by a macro shift in the dominant object viewed by the person or a macro tactile event simultaneously with a shift in a non-dominant object viewed by the person or a micro tactile event. The macro shift may be in the form of foreground/background reversal, display color changes, blank screen, etc. caused by hardware switching device or programed ANSI escape sequence changes. The non-dominant object may be a cursor, the last character typed, etc. The macro or micro tactile event may be a vibration, sound, puff of air, etc. The person is conditioned to blink in response to the non-dominant visual cue or micro tactile event by the association between the non-dominant or micro event and the dominant or macro event which causes involuntary blinking.

  • Patent number: 5148474
Abstract: A interactive value-added telecommunications system including automatic billing at a value-added rate controllable in real time is realized through in-place network carrier system utilities including multiparty switching which verify a calling party by a telephone number, and optionally a PIN number, and provides for calling party authorization of billing at a rate established by the called party. The system enables a method for conducting a business wherein a party calls for a service or product, is identified via one or two separate code sequences, requests a service or product from the called provider who establishes a rate for compliance. The caller authorizes and initiates the established charge to an account associated with one of said code sequences which preferably is a telephone number associated with a credit or debit account by completing a third-party call to a designated value-added number.

  • Patent number: 4771320
Abstract: An apparatus and method for extending the depth range of an underwater pressure hull such as an underwater camera body by supplying gas to balance the internal hull pressure with the ambient water pressure. The balancing gas is supplied by a variable volume reservoir pneumatically connected to the pressure hull. The reservoir is reduced in volume by an increase in ambient water pressure to thereby increase the internal pressure of the system according to Boyle's Law. Conversely, a decrease in ambient water pressure results in an increase in the reservoir volume which reduces the internal hull pressure accordingly.
