  • Patent number: 5420733
Abstract: A hard disk drive which contains a connector that is mounted to a printed circuit board and attached to a disk drive housing that complies with the PCMCIA specifications. The base plate and cover of the disk drive each have a pair of pins that are pressed into corresponding apertures in the connector housing to attach the connector to the hard disk drive. The cover and base plate also have studs that are pressed into corresponding slots in the connector housing to further mount the connector to the disk drive. The connector housing further has a pair of recessed surfaces that receive corresponding raised surfaces in the plates to insure that the cover and base plate are flush with the top surface of the connector.

  • Patent number: 5406431
Abstract: A filter system for a hard disk drive that complies with the PCMCIA specifications. The disk drive includes a cover that is coupled to a base plate by a spring clamp. The cover and base plate encapsulate a disk and accompanying actuator arm assembly in an area referred to as the HDA. Located between the HDA and the spring clamp is a carbon filled breather filter which removes contaminants such as particles and acidic gases from air that flows through the cover and base plate interface. The disk drive also has a pair of recirculation filters which capture any particles or acidic gases within the HDA.

  • Patent number: 5392175
Abstract: A hard disk drive which contains a connector that is mounted to a printed circuit board and fixed in place by features in the base plate and cover of the disk drive housing. The base plate and cover each have a pair of arms that have steps located at an inner portion of the arms. The connector has a pair of ears that correspond in shape to the arms of the plates. The ears and arms cooperate to prevent the connector from moving away from the housing of the drive unit. Additionally, the connector housing is located between the outer portion of the arms in a manner to prevent lateral movement of the connector relative to the circuit board. The base plate and cover also have inclined steps which extend along the width of the drive unit and cooperate with the connector to prevent z-axis movement of the same.
