  • Patent number: 5074508
Abstract: A device for supporting a vehicle driver's cap in a secure out of the way position within a vehicle cab is formed by a friction clip releasably gripping the bill of the cap. The friction clip is pivotally mounted to a member mounting the clip to a vehicle visor or the interior surface of the vehicle cab overhead position.

  • Patent number: 4182122
Abstract: An exhaust manifold for an internal combustion engine is provided with internal insulation so as to maintain the outside skin temperature preferably below 450.degree. F. The manifold is provided with an exhaust conduit or lining that is comprised of interfitting relatively axially movable sections in contact with the exhaust gases. A low specific gravity or porous sleeve of insulating material is fitted in slightly spaced relationship around the exhaust conduit. The sleeve of insulating material may be wrapped to prevent the metal of the outer cast manifold housing from penetrating the insulation. Each section of the exhaust conduit has a branch for connection to a flanged nipple which is permitted some limited movement relative to the manifold housing when connected to the exhaust ports of the engine.

  • Patent number: 4163634
Abstract: A fuel pump plunger in an injection pump is formed with a shallow groove circumscribed about the periphery between the scroll edge and the pumping end to level off pressure peaks in the injected fuel and to retard timing during deceleration of an engine due to an imposed load.

  • Patent number: 4050360
Abstract: An improved oil damped piston for use in internal combustion engines, pumps, compressors, or the like. The piston includes a generally cylindrical piston body having a crown and a depending skirt. A pair of spaced bands of polytetrafluoroethylene are carried by the skirt and each has a surface radially outwardly of the skirt. Each of the band surfaces includes a configuration defining a pumping surface for directing lubricant on a cylinder wall into the space between the band. The oil in the space damps side to side movement of the piston within its cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4021050
Abstract: An air bearing is coaxially mounted around a rotatable shaft, such as an engine crankshaft, by means of a flexible boot having walls forming a chamber therebetween. The bearing includes a pair of flexible lip seals thereon which contact the shaft at low speeds or when the shaft rotation is stopped and thereby effects sealing. The boot chamber is adapted to be pressurized by air to lift the seals out of contact with the shaft. In this manner, continuous streams of air will flow past the seals to prevent oil or contaminants from moving in a direction opposite to the air flow direction. The bellows arrangement, integral with the lip seal assemblies, enables the seal to be moved in a radially outward direction to accommodate lateral shaft movement. An alternate embodiment eliminates the lip seals and produces a dynamic seal which compensates for temperature differential affects and makes the air bearing clearance with the shaft self-compensating.

  • Patent number: 3989425
Abstract: A long-lived, unitized seal biasing spring assembly for use in rotary mechanisms such as rotary engines. The rotary mechanism with which the invention is to be used includes an operating chamber and a rotor within the chamber. At least one seal retaining groove is provided in the rotor and the seal is retained in the groove and extends partially out of the groove into sealing engagement with the chamber. A unitized, multi-leaf spring assembly made according to the invention is disposed in the groove and engages the seal to bias the seal into sealing engagement. Through the use of a unitized construction, assembly is facilitated while the use of a multi-leaf biasing spring arrangement dramatically reduces spring stress substantially prolonging the useful life thereof.
