  • Patent number: 4913208
Abstract: A pneumatic tire (10) having a tread (12), carcass (70), sidewalls (14), bead portions (18) and an annular reinforcing structure or belt structure (76). The tread (12) has two different types of circumferential grooves. Two circumferential straight grooves (20) divide the tire into three circumferentially extending portions (24,26,28). Each portion is further divided by a circumferentially extending zig-zag groove (22) or an "S" shaped groove. Each portion is then divided into blocks (30) by a plurality of axially extending grooves (32). The tread-reinforcing structure (76) has two belt plies (78,80) of steel cords (82), the cords of one are oriented at an angle A, with respect to the mid-circumferential centerplane (MC), while the cords of the other are oriented at an angle B, where angle B is less than angle A. The difference between angle A and angle B is greater than one degree and less than or equal to four degrees.

  • Patent number: 4609022
Abstract: A pneumatic radial passenger tire having a ground-engaging tread portion and a pair of axially opposed tread edges. The tread portion comprising at least two circumferentially continuous grooves formed by alternately disposed axially and circumferentially extending segments. Each of the segments have a particular angle orientation. There is also provided additional grooves connecting the circumferentially extending grooves and which extend from the axially outer circumferential grooves to the tread edge.

  • Patent number: 4545415
Abstract: A pneumatic radial tire having a tread portion comprising a first plurality of grooves, the grooves in the central region of the tread following a particular path across the tread. The grooves are spaced circumferentially apart a distance of about 2 to 3% of the circumference of the outer surface of the tread. A second plurality of grooves are provided in the central portion each of which follow substantially the same path as the first plurality of grooves and are substantially the mirror images of the first plurality of grooves. The second plurality of main grooves are also spaced circumferentially apart a distance in the range of about 2 to 3% of the circumference of the tire.

  • Patent number: 4351381
Abstract: A tread capable of being used in all seasons and weather conditions comprising of a substantially centrally located rib which extends circumferentially about the tire, a plurality of independent projections placed about the remaining portion of the tire. The independent projections are placed so as to provide for two circumferentially extending grooves, one on either side of the central rib and a plurality of laterally extending grooves which extend from each central groove to the tread edge of the tire. The tread has a low net to gross ratio.

  • Patent number: 4296789
Abstract: A tread for a pneumatic tire having a plurality of circumferentially spaced independent projections. The tread has three narrow zones which extend circumferentially about the tire; a central zone and two shoulder zones. The depth of the recesses in between the independent projections in these zones is substantially less than the depth of the recesses in between the projections in the remaining portion of the tread.

  • Patent number: 4221254
Abstract: A tread for a pneumatic tire having a plurality of circumferentially spaced independent projections, each projection has an outer configuration which is basically triangular as viewed in a plane perpendicular to the tread. The projections in the central portion of the tread are oriented such that the leading edges form an angle from about 30.degree. to 60.degree. with respect to the mid-circumferential plane of the tire, and the projections in the shoulder portions are oriented such that the leading edges form an angle from about 30.degree. to 70.degree. with respect to the mid-circumferential plane of the tire.
