  • Patent number: 5578393
Abstract: A high temperature battery has battery cells designed to generate electricity electrochemically at a temperature greater than room temperature. The battery has a housing containing the cells. A glass contact member is positioned between the cells and the housing, the glass contact member being solid at ambient temperature and pressure but capable of flow at the operating temperature of the cells and being resistant to flow of electricity therethrough. A method of controlling the temperature of a high temperature battery uses the above-recited structure and permits heat removal from the cells in a controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 5313152
Abstract: A circuit for connecting a faradaic battery with circuitry for monitoring the condition of the battery includes a plurality of voltage divider networks providing battery voltage monitoring nodes and includes compensating resistors connected with the networks to maintain uniform discharge currents through the cells of the battery. The circuit also provides a reduced common mode voltage requirement for the monitoring circuitry by referencing the divider networks to one-half the battery voltage.

  • Patent number: 4867036
Abstract: An electromagnetic gun assembly includes a gun barrel, a projectile structure disposed within the gun barrel, and a plurality of bore rider members disposed between the projectile structure and the gun barrel. The bore rider members are dimensioned and arranged to maintain the projectile structure spaced-apart from the gun barrel, restrict lateral movement of the projectile structure relative to the gun barrel, accommodate ablative mass loss, and accommodate static and dynamic gun barrel expansion. Each bore rider member has a tapered shape that includes converging first and second surfaces, the first surface facing the gun barrel, the second surface facing the projectile structure, and the first and second surfaces converging in a direction opposite to a direction of acceleration in which the projectile structure is to be accelerated along the gun barrel.
