  • Publication number: 20230140857
Abstract: A surgical system for performing a capsulotomy of a lens capsule of an eye includes an elastic ring, a suction cup, an interface, a converter, and a control console. The elastic ring includes a conductive surface. The interface may be coupled to an air port and/or a fluid line of a phacomachine. The converter detects a pulse of air from the phacomachine via the interface, and produce an electrical signal in response. Fluid received from the phacomachine is delivered into the suction cup. The system is configured to remove the fluid from the suction cup and between the suction cup and a surface of the eye to form a suction seal. The control console is configured to, in response to receiving the electrical signal, drive a series of electrical pulses through the conductive surface of the elastic ring, causing the elastic ring to perform a tissue cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 5554112
Abstract: An irrigator/aspirator surgical probe for laparoscopic surgery includes a rotatable handle assembly and a probe assembly having an electrosurgical electrode. The handle assembly has two valves, one for controlling the flow of irrigation fluid and one for controlling the flow of aspiration fluid. One of the valves can be locked at any selected setting with a locking lever. Fine adjustment of the valve is achieved in the locked position. The handle assembly further includes a valve body and valve members which are easily removable and disposable. The valve members in the valve body are made of an elastomeric material to provide effective sealing and inherent self return. The probe assembly can be rotated relative to the handle assembly as needed to reduce operator fatigue. The probe can be rotated in the probe assembly to position the electrode.

  • Patent number: 5499969
Abstract: A cassette for use in combination with a surgical handpiece and a control console for controlling irrigation and/or aspiration fluid flows in the handpiece having a housing with an external surface and an interface adapted to be held in operative association with the control console, an inlet coupling, a pump tube having an inlet and a discharge line in fluid communication with a waste container and a fluid flow passage in fluid communication with the inlet coupling and the pump inlet consisting of an open channel formed in the external surface and a gasket adhered to the external surface to seal the channel fluid-tight.

  • Patent number: 5449356
Abstract: A probe for use in minimally invasive surgery incorporates a nozzle and electrode assembly at the distal end of the probe for achieving gas assisted electro-fulguration. In addition, the probe accommodates the simultaneous use of other auxiliary surgical instruments, such as standard electrosurgical electrodes, laser fiber optic conduits and mechanical tools. Further still, the probe includes a passageway for achieving evacuation, irrigation or aspiration at the surgical site. The probe thus allows a surgeon to achieve multiple different surgical functions during a minimally invasive surgical procedure without removing one probe and inserting a different probe to achieve a different surgical function.

  • Patent number: 5261883
Abstract: A system and apparatus are disclosed for controlling amounts of fluid flow to and from a surgical site. The system includes a surgical handpiece having means including a passage for allowing fluid flow to and from a surgical site. A dispensing assembly is couplable to the handpiece for movement therewith and is selectively operable for automatically controlling continuously or discretely a controlled and metered amount of fluid flow to and from the surgical site.

  • Patent number: 5041096
Abstract: A fluid handling system is disclosed for use with a surgical handpiece in microsurgery. Included is a fluid interface block apparatus which is structurally adapted to be removably and firmly secured to a control unit of the type which controls the fluidics of a microsurgery system. The system includes a plurality of peristaltic pumps arranged with respect to each other so as to minimize the effects of fluid pressure pulsations produced by each one.
