  • Patent number: 5501297
Abstract: An overhead guard assembly for a pedestrian-operated industrial lift truck maneuvered by an arcuately shiftable handle and a vertically elongated mast supporting an article lifting implement. The overhead guard assembly has a fixed horizontally disposed structural member and a pivotable horizontally disposed structural member mounted adjacent the upper end of the mast. A vertically extending elongated shaft is connected to the pivotable structural member and is operatively connected to a handle by a drive linkage. The drive linkage rotates the elongated shaft as the handle is arcuately rotated whereby the pivotable structural member rotates in tandem with the handle to provide an overhead barrier above the handle and the operator's head.

  • Patent number: 5465807
Abstract: A safety guard uses a strip switch to prevent injury at pinch points on either lift gates or pedestrian-operated industrial trucks. A strip switch is provided at the pinch point between the lift gate and the truck bed or vehicle body to stop or reverse operation of the lift gate when contacted by body parts or items improperly loaded on the lift gate. A strip switch may also be located adjacent the portions of a pedestrian-operated lift truck. The strip switch is disposed located about a portion of the perimeter of the pedestrian-operated lift truck adjacent the operator. Upon contacting the strip switch, the pedestrian-operated lift truck may be stopped or reversed to permit the operator to free his foot from the potential pinch point where injury can occur.

  • Patent number: 5434457
Abstract: A foot pedal safety switch and safety circuit for industrial machines which effectively precludes accidental operation of a machine and improper repetitive cycling of a machine. The foot pedal is completely enclosed within a rigid enclosure having an entry door through which an operator's foot is inserted each time the foot pedal switch is actuated. The safety circuit includes one or more limit switches indicating the status of the access panel and triggering a timing circuit which provides a time period within which the foot pedal switch must be contacted to operate the machine. For a second operation of the machine, the operator's foot must be removed from the enclosure allowing the access panel to close. To repeat operation of the machine, the operator then places his foot again in the foot pedal through the access panel. The safety circuit is mounted within the foot pedal switch enclosure to provide a self-contained single-actuation device which can be easily incorporated into existing machinery.

  • Patent number: 5377571
Abstract: A safety guard system for a band saw that comprises a flexible member and a sensor for deactivating the band saw when the flexible member is not deployed correctly. The flexible member has a resting position and a sawing position. In both positions, the flexible member provides a protective barrier between the band saw user and the band saw blade. The flexible member automatically adjusts by flexing to accommodate different sized work pieces.

  • Patent number: 5080578
Abstract: An apparatus for extinguishing undesired flames in liquid fuel-burning heaters having a wick partially disposed in a fuel supply reservoir in fluid communication with a fuel tank said apparatus comprising fuel flow cut-off means for interrupting said fluid communication in response to sensing excessive heat and wick withdrawal means for retracting said wick entirely into said wick fuel supply reservoir in response to sensing of excessive heat.

  • Patent number: 4076369
Abstract: A box terminal, particularly for card edge receptacles in telecommunications systems is in the form of a hollow box structure having opposed lever arms with contact areas at the ends of the arms, and with opposed formations on a plane normal to the plane containing the lever arms. The opposed formations restrict lateral displacement of a pin entering the box and, with the beams, restrict rotational displacement of a pin. Contact occurs on at least two prime surfaces, that is on flat surfaces. The beams are preloaded to control insertion forces.

  • Patent number: 4070557
Abstract: To provide for closed loop conditions in vacant module positions, as in back panel systems in telecommunications systems, a bridging contact is provided which, in the absence of a module, contacts at least two terminals or contact members. The bridging contact is mounted in the shroud of a back panel. Insertion of a module moves the bridging contact away from contact members. The contact member is given a particular form or shape so that the module does not touch those parts of the bridging contact which actually contact the contact members, giving long serviceability and avoiding damage to the contacting areas.
