  • Patent number: 6361293
Abstract: A hermetic compressor includes a housing and a compressor subassembly resiliently supported within the housing. The compressor subassembly includes a motor drivingly coupled to a compressor mechanism by means of a shaft and a motor enclosure is connected to the compressor mechanism and encases the motor. A pair of grommets are disposed between the housing and the compressor subassembly whereby the compressor subassembly is resiliently suspended within the housing. The compressor mechanism discharges compressed gas into the housing through an aperture located in the motor enclosure and a quantity of oil is disposed in a lower portion of the housing. The aperture is submerged in the quantity of oil and the discharge gas exiting through the aperture is urged through the quantity of oil forming a sound damping foam. A main bearing is connected to the motor enclosure.

  • Patent number: 5496156
Abstract: A hermetic compressor including a suction muffler disposed opposite the suction inlet tube. A funnelled or countersunk inlet port on the muffler permits semi-direct refrigerant flow into the muffler, creating enhanced cooling of the motor and higher compressor efficiency. Baffle walls disposed parallel and on opposite sides of an internal standpipe within the suction muffler create an increased resonator effect with optimum refrigerant throughput.

  • Patent number: 5220811
Abstract: A muffler tube for use in a hermetically sealed compressor is disclosed. The muffler tube of the present invention has a roughened outer finish, and has a protuberance extending radially outwardly therefrom, which protuberance is received in a recess in the inner wall of the muffler. The combination of the roughened outer finish and the protuberance connection assist in preventing the muffler from turning on the tube, and from moving vertically on the tube.

  • Patent number: 4888962
Abstract: A compressor and suction accumulator assembly wherein the suction accumulator is secured in close proximity to the compressor by way of a strap. The strap is engaged with the housing of the compressor and extends circumferentially around the accumulator casing. A spring loop is formed on the strap to establish spring tension at the engagement of the strap and the compressor housing. The spring loop has opposing sides spaced apart a predetermined distance, with each of the opposing sides having a hole disposed therein which is axially aligned with the hole in the opposite side. A screw is received in one hole and extends to the hole in the other side. Rotating the screw results in a constriction of the distance between the opposing sides of the spring. Spring tension is imparted to the strap and a tight connection is created between the accumulator and the compressor.
