  • Patent number: 8763107
Abstract: Apparatus, methods and software that implement cross-connected, server-based, IP-connected, point-to-point connectivity between remotely located firewall-protected devices. The apparatus, methods, and software allow user computers to communicate with remotely located firewall-protected devices that without the necessity to configure the firewalls. The apparatus methods, and software are implemented using a relay server that runs software that implements communication between an arbitrary number of firewall-protected devices and an arbitrary number of firewall-protected user computers that are remotely-located from the devices.

  • Patent number: 8224499
Abstract: Apparatus and methods or algorithms that report data regarding an engine controller and allow control over an engine coupled to the engine controller. The controller is coupled to a remotely-located annunciator. The annunciator has an engine communication interface for communicating with the controller, a display, interface electronics for causing the display to indicate status reported by the engine controller a network interface, and a computer processor coupled to the interface electronics, the engine communication interface and the network interface. The controller is polled to monitor engine parameters and the status. The engine parameters and status are transmitted to a remote web-accessible database by way of the network interface. A remote monitoring and control system comprising the remote database is able to monitor the operation of multiple generators through their engine controllers and control individual generators by way of remote annunciators.

  • Patent number: 8078861
Abstract: Disclosed are exemplary remote programming systems, software and methods for use in remotely programming field devices, such as engines, power generators, controllers, and data sensors, and the like. A (wired or wireless) communications link interconnects a processor and a remotely located server. The processor comprises a program memory and firmware that is loaded into the program memory. The processor is coupled to a nonvolatile memory device and apparatus for communicating over the communications link. The remotely located server contains a source code file comprising updated firmware for the processor. Software or a method is provided that initiates a process wherein the updated firmware is transferred from the server to the processor and the updated firmware is stored in the nonvolatile memory.

  • Patent number: 6747368
Abstract: Methods and apparatus that couple standby power to certain non-critical loads to implement load reduction and avoid power shortages and resultant blackouts. A primary power source is coupled to an electrical breaker panel that distributes power to a plurality of loads including non-critical loads, critical loads, and load reduction loads. A secondary power source is coupled to an automatic transfer switch that distributes power to the critical loads from the secondary power source if power is not available from the primary power source. A load reduction transfer switch, wired in parallel to the automatic transfer switch, distributes power from the secondary power source to the load reduction loads to reduce power demand on the primary source only when power from the primary power source is available and during times requiring load reduction. Preferably, the load reduction transfer switch is wirelessly controlled to permit simultaneous load reduction at multiple sites.

  • Patent number: 6571093
Abstract: Methods that extend capabilities of wireless data transport services. The methods provide for communication with many wireless remote data transport devices. In one embodiment, the identity of each wireless remote data transport device is subdefined by placing additional identification information into data fields of packets transmitted by the wireless remote data transport devices. In another embodiment, identification numbers assigned to wireless remote data transport devices are time division multiplexed across a large number of remote devices. In another embodiment, multiple wireless remote data transport devices share the same primary identification number and are communicated with by transmitting a page of the shared identification number, followed by a page containing a secondary identification number, followed by a page containing a command to transmit data.

  • Patent number: 5068799
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting flaws in continuous web material illuminated by a light source and optically scanned to produce a digitalized electronic image of said material. The digitized image data representative of the continuous web material is stored in memory. The image data is also applied to a digital signal processor which identifies areas of the image which represent potential flawed areas of the continuous web material. A variety of spatial matched filters are employed to detect the flaws. Information concerning the locations of the potential flaws is transferred to a computer which analyzes in detail portions of the stored image in the vicinity of the identified areas. The processing performed in the computer verifies the presence of flaws in the material.

  • Patent number: 4993830
Abstract: Apparatus for determining the relative distance or depth to an object. A light source projects light at an object whose distance is to be determined. A lenticular prismatic screen responds to light reflected from the object and generates two distinct images thereof. Imaging optics focuses the two images generated by the lenticular prismatic screen onto a sensor which detects and digitizes the images. A computer is coupled to the sensor that determines the separation between the two images, which separation is indicative of the distance to or depth of the object. The computer may also compute the centroid of each of the images to more accurately determine the separation between them, and hence the distance to the object. The lenticular screen may use prismatic surfaces that are essentially equilateral triangles, or constant angle prisms across the material.
