  • Patent number: 4271325
Abstract: The dehydrohalogenation of a 1,1,1,3-tetrahalo-4-methylpentane to a 1,1-dihalo-4-methyl-1,3-pentadiene is accomplished in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalytic amount of stannic chloride. The diene is a useful intermediate in the manufacture of insecticidal synthetic pyrethroid esters.

  • Patent number: 4051182
Abstract: A process of manufacture is disclosed herein, whereby .alpha.-chloropropionyl chloride, a compound which is useful as an intermediate in the production of N,N-diethyl 2(.alpha.-naphthoxy) propionamide, a useful herbicide, is produced by the chlorination of 1,2-dichloropropane to form 1,1,2-trichloropropane, which is cracked to form 1,1-dichloropropene-1, which is subsequently oxidized to produce the desired product, .alpha.-chloropropionyl chloride.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4038284
Abstract: N-substituted oxazolidines having the formula ##STR1## in which R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl or lower alkylthio; and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, lower alkoxyalkyl or lower alkylol; and R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 are independently hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxyalkyl or lower alkylol are prepared by reacting an oxazolidine with an acid chloride or analogous compound in the presence of a hydrogen chloride acceptor and water. The process is characterized by minimization of by-product formation. In a preferred embodiment, the oxazolidine is prepared by reaction of an alkanolamine with an aldehyde or ketone and the water of reaction is retained in the system.

  • Patent number: 4007224
Abstract: An improved process for the production of dichloroacetyl chloride by liquid phase photooxidation of trichloroethylene with oxygen or air in the presence of a catalytic amount of free chlorine or bromine to yield a mixture of dichloroacetyl chloride and trichloroethylene oxide is disclosed herein. The improvement in the process being conducting the reaction in the presence of a catalytic amount of primary or secondary amides, preferably dimethylformamide, which causes the trichloroethylene oxide to rearrange exothermically to dichloroacetyl chloride.
