  • Patent number: 6400148
Abstract: In one embodiment of the invention, an induction logging system is used to measure selected formation and borehole parameters of interest and simultaneously provide indications of the quality of the selected measurements. One or more transmitter-receiver pairs are employed with the transmitter components operating at one or more frequencies. The induction logging system may be a conventional system with coil axes parallel to the borehole axis or may be a transverse induction logging system including coil axes inclined to the borehole axis. A model of the response characteristics of the borehole instrument is also employed. By using a subset of the measurements, the parameters of interest are determined and an expected value of the remaining measurements is made. A comparison of the actual and expected values of the remaining measurements serves as a quality control check on the equipment and on the accuracy of the model.

  • Patent number: 6060884
Abstract: A wave propagation measurement-while-drilling system is used to measure selected formation and borehole parameters of interest and simultaneously provide indications of the quality of the selected measurements. One or more transmitter-receiver pairs are employed with the transmitter components operating at one or more frequencies. A model of the response characteristics of the borehole instrument is also employed. By using a redundant subset of the measurements, the parameters of interest are determined and an expected value of the remaining measurements is made. A comparison of the actual and expected values of the remaining measurements serves as a quality control check on the equipment and on the accuracy of the model.

  • Patent number: 5892361
Abstract: A propagation resistivity measurement-while-drilling device is used to measure borehole environmental parameters along with electromagnetic properties of the formation. Multiple transmitter-receiver pairs operating at one or more transmitter frequencies are used to obtain a set of amplitude and phase measurements. A model of the response of the borehole instrument in varying formation and borehole conditions is also utilized. Formation and borehole parameters of interest are selected by the analyst. The measured amplitude and phase data set is then combined with the model of the tool response to obtain the selected parameters of interest.

  • Patent number: 5811973
Abstract: A propagation resistivity measurement-while-drilling system is used to determine the resistivity (or conductivity) of the conate formation fluid, the dielectric constant of the dry rock matrix, and the water filled porosity of the formation. One or more transmitter-receiver pairs are utilized with the transmitter component of the transmitter-receiver pairs operating at a plurality of frequencies. Water filled porosity measurements can be combined with an independent measurement which responds to the total fluid porosity of the formation to obtain a measure of formation hydrocarbon saturation in fresh or saline conate water environments.

  • Patent number: 5504978
Abstract: A locking clamp assembly includes a circular band of flexible material having, first and second end portions and a series of indentations formed in the outer surface of the band along the length of the band at the first end portion. A housing is mounted on the second end portion of the band and has a channel formed therein which receives the first end portion of the band therethrough. A screw is also disposed within the channel and has a threaded portion with a plurality threads which threadably engage the indentations of the first end portion of the band so that when the screw is turned, the band is tightened and loosened. A locking device releasably locks the screw to the housing its desired position wherein the screw is prohibited from turning thereby preventing the tightening or loosening of the band.
