A first pressure reading of water in a supply channel is taken, the supply channel being in fluid communication with a distribution line of the water distribution system and terminated by a flushing valve. The flushing valve is then actuated causing the valve to change state. A second pressure reading is taken of the water in the supply channel and a difference between the first and second pressure readings is computed.
