  • Patent number: 6330888
Abstract: A visual stimulation cane or walking stick assists a Parkinson's Disease patient in overcoming a sudden immobility or freezing episode. The cane carries a visual indicator, which can be a plastic strip or leg, and which can be extended when needed to provide visual stimulation to initiate stepping. An actuator mechanism can include a plunger at the base of the cane, and a pivot member on which the indicator leg is carried. A lock/unlock knob allows the cane either to be used as a normal walking cane without visual stimulation, or to be used to overcome a freezing episode.

  • Patent number: 5128104
Abstract: A consumable, non-reuseable cuvette for containing a sample or specimen during an automated test thereof, primarily for medical diagnostic purposes. The cuvette has a single, main reaction chamber that is pre-loaded at the factory with the precise quantity of a particular liquid or dry reagent useful for a specific test. The cover of the cuvette includes an opening to permit the introduction of a diluent or liquid reagent into the reagent chamber, a manually loaded, recessed sample receiving chamber having a frangible bottom floor and a purge reservoir. A cap is hinged to the cuvette cover and includes a rigid protruding member that pierces the sample or specimen chamber floor when closed by the testing machine, sealing the contents of the cuvette, allowing the sample to be dispensed into the chamber containing the reagent and diluent.

  • Patent number: 4383007
Abstract: A radio cabinet includes a compartment for three AAA size batteries. The compartment includes a housing having integral means for holding contacts which are intended to engage the batteries only when the batteries are placed in the housing in a predetermined way. The contacts are connected to provide a series-aiding arrangement of the batteries. If any one or more of the batteries is improperly inserted into the housing, electrical continuity is prevented by said integral means.
