  • Patent number: 4708698
Abstract: A driving sprocket to drive conveyor chain on a finger jointing machine having a base plate with central aperture therein. Drive hubs are mounted on opposed faces of the base plate and are adapted to be rotated by conventional power transmission equipment. The drive hubs project into the central aperture and clutch plates are interposed in operative series relation between the drive hub and the related face of the base plate. The drive hubs directly and solidly drive the clutch plates. The clutch plates frictionally drive the base plate. Caliper clutch assemblies control the level of frictional engagement between the respective clutch plates and the related face of the base plate.

  • Patent number: 4636220
Abstract: An arrangement for adjusting the heel height of a prosthetic foot includes a cavity at the rear aspect of the prosthetic foot adapted to receive a separate locking block therein. Both the locking block and the cavity, as seen inside elevational view, are arcuate in configuration. Secured to the lower aspect of the block are a pair of arcuate rails spaced transversely from each other. Secured to the upper surface of the cavity and in complementary relation to the arcuate rails are a pair of transversely spaced grooves or tracks to receive the respective rails. The locking block may be moved longitudinally and arcuately of the prosthetic foot to thereby adjust the heel height of the foot when it is secured to a prosthetic device. A locking bolt is used to accomplish the attachment of the foot to the device and hold the block in fixed position to maintain the desired heel height.

  • Patent number: 4582461
Abstract: The invention is the precise mounting of a cutting tool on a rotating spindle to prevent eccentric runout between the spindle and tool and comprises mating non-locking taper surfaces at the inner end of the spindle tool combination and diverging angular taper surfaces at the outer end of the spindle and tool combination. A variable diameter wedge engages the diverging taper surfaces for precise and repeatable accurate mounting of the tool to the spindle.

  • Patent number: 4525097
Abstract: A force multiplying and locking arrangement is disclosed to lock, for example, a cutting tool to a spindle. It comprises main body arranged to be threadably mounted on a spindle, said main body having a pressure ring at its forward aspect mounted to accommodate movement longitudinally of the arrangement and to inhibit movement rotationally of the arrangement. A cavity is defined by said pressure ring and said main body and includes an inclined plane. The cavity has a plurality of spherical balls disposed therein. Said main body is peripherally threaded to accommodate the threadable mounting of a compression ring having, at its forward aspect, a conical inclined plane overlying the cavity and the first mentioned inclined plane. Rotation of the compression ring forces the spherical balls into the cavity engaging the inclined planes and the pressure ring and greatly multiplying the force for locking the device. Reverse rotation of the compression ring releases the locking force.

  • Patent number: 4489907
Abstract: A system for altering the lift/drag characteristics of powered general aviation aircraft whereby flight path control may be exercised. The control device operates in conjunction with such lift/drag altering devices, spoilers, dive brakes and the like, and is physically unitary with the pilot's operation of the throttle control. Utilizing a single control, the pilot may selectively maintain the craft without lift/drag modification, with automatic lift/drag modification at lower power settings such as under landing approach conditions and lift/drag modifications at higher power settings and without modifying the power setting. A vacuum operated valve having simple selectable operational modes provides flight path control desired. Vacuum distribution means, i.e., vacuum lines are provided from a vacuum source, to the vacuum valve and to the spoilers and dive brakes for bellows actuation of the lift/drag altering devices.

  • Patent number: 4183321
Abstract: In a finger slotting and glue applying machine, random length studs, free from blemishes and having precisely squared ends, are advanced edgewise on a conveyor with their right ends (as viewed from the delivery end of the conveyor) aligned, past a set of slotting saws for uniformly slotting the right ends of the studs. The studs are then shifted to align their left ends and advanced past a second set of slotting saws for uniformly slotting the left ends of the studs. The studs then have adhesive applied in the left end slots and are then discharged at the introductory end of a machine which advances the studs lengthwise, interfitting and adhesively uniting successive studs end to end for producing blemish-free composite studs or beams which may be cut into any chosen length or lengths. The present invention has to do with limiting the regulating, the feeding and application of the glue to the slotted left ends of the studs and with the clean recovery and return to the source of surplus glue.

  • Patent number: 4118872
Abstract: In finger jointing machines work pieces of random lengths are pushed through the machine past end slotting saws, the strips being desirably disposed precisely at right angles to the direction in which they are advanced. It is not unusual for the work pushing members to get out of adjustment. In accordance with the present invention a testing device is provided for testing the transverse alignment of pusher members and guiding the machine operator in making corrective adjustments.

  • Patent number: 4009742
Abstract: Mechanism is provided for grooving or planing wood products either lengthwise or crosswise. Such grooving may be preparatory to the interdigital end to end interfitting of work pieces, commonly referred to as finger-jointing, or to simple planing which involves the continuous, uniform smoothing of a surface from end to end throughout its entire width, or to uniform longitudinal or transverse slotting. In any of these operations the cutting blade edges become dull and require resharpening from time to time. Conventionally the outer face of the blade which confronts the work is ground away for sharpening, and this has the unfortunate consequence of shortening the blade and thereby reducing the depth of cut. In accordance with the present invention this difficulty is overcome. The blade is formed with parallel, upwardly and forwardly sloping inner and outer faces, and the blade is sharpened by evenly grinding away the forward face of the blade.
