Patent number: 6028756Abstract: An integrated circuit includes topological features for weakening or otherwise modifying a blowable fuse in order to decrease the current needed to blow the fuse. This allows a decrease in the size of the circuit components which are needed to supply the current for blowing the fuse, in turn allowing compaction of the layout of the circuitry needed to blow the fuse. To this end, topological features are used to deform the shape of or otherwise modify the fuse, in turn increasing the resistance of the fuse or introducing flaws that allow the fuse to blow at a lower current.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1998Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ronald Lamar Freyman, Bruce Walter McNeill, Malcolm Harold Smith, Gary H. Patent number: 6028989Abstract: A program method for noise calculation and modeling caculates crosstalk voltage for a planned chip design, by first running routing and crosstalk routines for creating crosstalk rules for the planned design of a chip and loading crosstalk rules after routing is completed, and calculating the noise voltage of the planned design based on the exact topologies/paths of the victim and perpetrator nets of the planned design by path tracing and outputing a program file which contains the calculated noise voltage and a complete tabulation of the key physical and electrical parameters of the victim and perpetrator nets of the planned design, and then modeling using a network analysis program to selected nets of the design which exceed allowed noise limitations and obtaining the planned design net's network topology as an output while using the program file containing noise voltage calculation results as an input to the net's topology circuit simulation modeling program and outputting a nodal voltages vs.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1998Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Allan Harvey Dansky, Howard Harold Smith, Fadi Yusuf Busaba, Michael Alexander Bowen, Adrian Zuckerman

Patent number: 6008749Abstract: An integrated circuit for converting an analog input signal to a corresponding digital signal. The integrated circuit has selectable operational modes and comprises a digital-to analog converter (DAC) to produce a variable reference voltage, a sample and hold circuit for sampling and holding the analog input signal to produce a sampled and held analog input signal, a comparator for comparing the reference voltage with the sampled and held analog input signal to produce a difference signal, a converter to convert the difference signal into the digital signal and related to the difference signal, and a selector for the operational modes. The operational modes may be one of a single ended current mode, a single ended voltage mode, a differential current mode and a differential voltage mode.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Malcolm Harold Smith

Patent number: 5991220Abstract: Blowable fuses on an integrated circuit are programmed in software, responsive to the control of an addressable memory which communicates with the peripheral data bus of a digital processor to allow increased flexibility of the programming operation, and to allow for correction both during the manufacturing process and after packaging of the manufactured integrated circuit. In a preferred embodiment, the fuses are operated (i.e., blown) responsive to transistor switching elements present on the integrated circuit and which are controlled by the addressable memory. The switching elements, and the associated fuses, can be accessed through software in similar fashion to any other peripheral device. The preferred addressable memory includes an instruction register and a data register, which are loaded from and write to the peripheral data bus. Internally, the data register includes an array of registers corresponding to the fuse links with which the system is associated.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1998Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Lucent Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Ronald Lamar Freyman, Bruce Walter McNeill, Malcolm Harold Smith, Gary H. Patent number: 4938441Abstract: An adjustable keyboard support is disclosed constituted by a rear housing that pivotally supports one end of a parallel link mechanism. A front housing is carried by the other end of the parallel link mechanism, and pivotally supports a keyboard mounting plate. The parallel link mechanism permits upward and downward movement of the keyboard mounting plate without change in the tilt of that plate. A gas cylinder mechanism coupled to the front housing changes the vertical position of the same, and a slide plate adjustment mechanism provides forward and backward movement of the keyboard mounting plate.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1989Date of Patent: July 3, 1990Assignee: Knoll International, Inc.Inventors: Bruce R. Hannah, James B. Eldon, Eric J. Armstrong, Harold A. Smith, Philip J. Campbell

Patent number: 4642042Abstract: An apparatus for making composite sheets that are homogeneous, dense, and have an even surface. The apparatus comprises an oscillating plate unit that vibrates in a direction transverse to a belt means. Composite pre-mix is deposited on the conveyor belt which draws it under the oscillating plate. The oscillating plate has three sections: a curved plate section; an inclined plate section and a flat plate section. The composite pre-mix is metered by the curved plate section, compacted by the inclined plate section and maintained compacted by the flat plate section. These thus formed composite sheets may be cured and are particularly adapted for use in fuel cell structures such as electrode substrates.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1985Date of Patent: February 10, 1987Assignee: International Fuel Cells CorporationInventor: J. Patent number: 4561693Abstract: Tilt control for a back support and height control for the back support and a seat for a chair or the like are provided by a gas cylinder actuator having a cam surface and pivotally mounted so that the cam surface activates the gas cylinder. A blocker plate is pivotally mounted for movement between one position in which it prevents tilting of the back support and another position in which tilting is permitted. The actuator and blocker plate are coupled together so that pivotal movement of one is accompanied by pivotal movement of the other.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1983Date of Patent: December 31, 1985Assignee: Knoll International, Inc.Inventors: Alan Brownlie, Jeffrey D. Patent number: 4426340Abstract: A process for fabricating a resin bonded carbon fiber article, and in particular electrochemical cell electrode substrates and the like requiring different mean pore sizes in different areas, involves simultaneously heating and compacting different mixtures of carbon fibers and resin in different areas of an article forming mold, wherein the carbon fibers in each of the different mixtures have different, known bulk densities. The different bulk densities of the carbon fibers in the mixtures are chosen to yield the desired mean pore sizes and other properties in the article after heating and compacting the mixtures. Preferably, the different bulk densities are obtained using different carbon fiber lengths in the molding mixtures. The process is well suited to forming ribbed electrode substrates with preselected optimum mean pore sizes, porosities, and densities in the ribs, the webs connecting the ribs, and in the edge seals.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1981Date of Patent: January 17, 1984Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventors: Glen J. Goller, Richard D. Breault, J. Harold Smith

Patent number: 4267137Abstract: In fabricating sheet material with closely spaced parallel ribs on one side, a mold with ribbed shaped grooves is uniformly filled with a loose, dry molding material using a coater with a plurality of adjacent blades extending therefrom with the blade tips parallel to and preferably in contact with the mold top surface. The coater is swept across the mold top surface and the blades distribute and compress the molding material into the mold grooves. The invention is particularly useful for molding materials with high fiber content which are difficult to pack uniformly and with sufficient density into the mold.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1978Date of Patent: May 12, 1981Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventor: J.
