  • Patent number: 6170665
Abstract: A combination greeting card box and gift tie has several unique point of sale features. The concept has a shipping box that doubles as a point of sale display for the box and the gift tie it is designed to contain. The box has an open position where it functions as a hanging point of sale display and a closed position where it functions as a shipper for the gift tie. In the open position an integral cardboard tab serves to hold the shipper and gift tie on display. A second integral tab holds the tie. Once purchased the customer will fold up the shipper box using integral living hinges and closes the shipper box using integral locks. The concept is shown using a tie as the gift item.

  • Patent number: 5332131
Abstract: A kicker latch for container closures includes a latch wall integrally hinged to the cap and having a latch tab extending from an end of the latch wall toward the cap and kicker lever extending in generally the same direction and spaced from the latch tab. In general, pivoting the kicker latch outwardly causes the kicker lever to urge a closure member of the cap away from its closed position to facilitate grasping the closure member to pivot it to its fully open position. On a folding spout type of cap, wherein the folding spout functions as a closure member, the latch wall may include a plug positioned between the latch tab and the kicker lever to seal the end of the spout. In general, the kicker latch has utility with a variety of types of container closures, including caps with nonfolding spouts, open top types of caps for pills and granulates, and containers for which the closure member is a lid which is completely separable from the container.

  • Patent number: 5147054
Abstract: A tamper-proof container for over-the-counter drugs or the like includes a cylindrical plastic bottle which tapers to a narrow neck. An annular angled depression is molded into the bottle neck. A two-part closure includes a cap ring onto which is molded an annular angled projection sized and positioned to mate with the angled depression in the bottle neck when the cap ring is snapped over the bottle mouth. A hinged cap is attached to the cap ring and has a plurality of tamper tab projections connected thereto via a like plurality of frangible tear regions. The tamper tab projections mate with corresponding tamper tab depressions in the cap ring when the hinged cap is closed. After the bottle is filled, a tamper-evident seal is adhered over the mouth of the bottle and the cap ring is snapped over the bottle mouth, enclosing the tamper-evident seal. The cap ring is then ultrasonically welded to the bottle neck and the cap is ultrasonically welded to the cap ring via the tamper tabs.

  • Patent number: 5137260
Abstract: A child resistant container with a flush latched closure includes a container with a resilient latch tongue member hinged thereto, the tongue including upper and lower pawls forming a latch recess therebetween. A closure or cap is hinged to the container and includes a latch bar sized and shaped to be flushly received within the latch recess to prevent gripping access to the latch bar. The cap hinge is of such a configuration that the cap cannot be separated from the container body with the cap latched closed. The latch is released by flexing the latch tongue toward the container which moves the upper pawl out of the way of the latch bar and moves the lower pawl beneath the latch bar to expose a gripping edge of the latch bar to allow a fingernail or the like to be used to open the cap. The latch tongue is positionable in such a manner as to avoid use of the latch to close the container, and the cap and container body are cooperatively sized to seal the container without the cap being latched thereto.

  • Patent number: 5092493
Abstract: A captive key release closure structure includes a base ring for connection to a rim of a container, a closure member or cap integrally hinged to the base ring, latch indentations on an outer surface of a neck wall of the base ring, and latch pawls on an inner surface of a depending circumferential wall of the cap and aligned with the indentations. A key slot is formed in the cap wall at a position opposite the hinge, and a key receiving recess is formed in the base ring. The latch indentations and pawls are positioned in sets on opposite sides of the key slot and key recess. The closure structure is opened by insertion of a small keylike tool, such as a coin, spoon, or the like, and twisting against the surfaces forming the key slot and recess to separate and thereby release the pawls from the indentations.

  • Patent number: 5013073
Abstract: A window latch mechanism having first and second closure members for attachment to respective first and second double-hung windows. Hingeably attached to the first closure member is a tongue having a distal tooth. When the closure members are in an open configuration thereof, the tongue may be selectively rotated about a hinge to an easy open position or to a vertical ready-to-latch position. The first closure member also includes a vertically extending biasing wall adjacent to a base of the tongue. The second closure member includes a bar positioned to be overlapped by the tooth when in a closed and locked position thereof. The mechanism also includes at least one restraining boss positioned opposite the bar relative to the tongue for selectively allowing the tongue to be biased away from the bar and interferringly held by the boss away from the bar in a closed but unlatched position to allow the windows to be opened.

  • Patent number: 4925041
Abstract: A vial or other container includes a hinged closure member having a latch for securing the closure member in a closed position. The latch includes a "child resistant" configuration wherein it is very difficult for adolescents to open the container and an "easy open" configuration wherein it is relatively simple for persons with limited manual dexterity to open the closure member. The latch includes a bipositional tongue hingedly attached to either the container or closure member. The tongue is hinged to allow for the various configurations and, when in the child proof configuration, substantially requires use of both hands and a substantial amount of dexterity in order to open the closure member. Various devices are further provided to protect the tongue from manipulation by adolescents and for indicating previous tampering with the container. The closure member is connected by a hinge to the container.

  • Patent number: 4790452
Abstract: A dispenser for vials having a body and a captive cap includes a plurality of elongate tubes mounted on a support structure such that the axis of the tubes is generally vertical. An elongate slot extends from the top of each tube to the bottom thereof. Each slot has a non-vertically aligned offset near the bottom thereof. The vials include a body which is received in the tubular member so as to nest with other vial bodies and a cap which is hingedly connected at a neck to the vial body. The slot is substantially smaller than both the diameter of the vial body and cap, but slidably receives the neck. In this manner, the bodies are received within the tubular member and the caps extend outwardly therefrom.
