Patent number: 4600373Abstract: A machine for fabricating sulfur concrete pipe includes a centrifuge for centrifuging a mixture of the constituents of the sulfur concrete. The centrifuge includes a port for the direction of heat therethrough for heating the mixture. The centrifuge also includes a flexible cylindrical wall which may be directed radially inwards for compacting the mixture in response to a fluid pressure exerted on a side of said flexible cylinder opposite from said mixture. Thermometers are provided for measuring the temperature of applied heat at different points within said centrifuge, and a computer is responsive to the measured temperatures for computing future values of temperature to be applied to said mixture in accordance with a predetermined relationship based on past temperature and time of centrifuging.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1982Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: GHA Lock Joint, Inc.Inventor: Harold V. Swanson

Patent number: 4452175Abstract: A stall for a milking parlor having an elevated cow platform with an operator's floor along one side. The stall has a series of post assemblies to which longitudinal elements are secured. Each of the intermediate post assemblies has a pair of posts secured to the platform on the side remote from the operator's floor. A cantilever member has an arched portion extending from the laterally spaced posts across the cow platform to the side adjacent the operator's floor. A post portion extends downwardly with its lower end spaced above the cow platform affording the operator ready access to the cows.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1979Date of Patent: June 5, 1984Assignee: Babson Bros. Co.Inventors: Duncan M. Thompson, Harold V. Swanson

Patent number: 4414385Abstract: A sulfur concrete coating composition is disclosed containing 77-88 weight percent sulfur, 3-10 weight percent DCPD (dicyclopentadiene) and oligomer of cyclopentadiene, 1-15 weight percent of mineral aggregate material and 0-5 weight percent of glass fibers having a length of between 1/2 and 11/2 inches. The composition is useful as a resistant liner to protect pipes and other structures from corrosion and chemical attack.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1982Date of Patent: November 8, 1983Assignee: GHA Lock Joint, Inc.Inventor: Harold V. Swanson

Patent number: 4344385Abstract: An independent quarter milker has four teat cups with individual conduits connected from the teat cups to a manifold mounted on the stall structure. Milk from the manifold flows through a pipeline to a collection tank. A flow sensor and shutoff valve in each milk conduit adjacent the manifold provides individual quarter milking control remote from the teat cups. One or more of the milk conduits may be connected with a milk collection chamber so that the milk from a single quarter may be separately collected, as when one quarter of the cow is infected.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1979Date of Patent: August 17, 1982Assignee: Babson Bros. Co.Inventors: Harold V. Swanson, Duncan M. Thompson

Patent number: 4303038Abstract: A teat cup has an inflation with an intermediate portion sealed against the shell, defining a space adjacent the bottom of the shell, separate from the pulsation space. Holes through the shell and the inflation wall below the intermediate seal admit air to the inflation aiding the flow of milk. An air filter keeps dirt from the milk.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1980Date of Patent: December 1, 1981Assignee: Babson Bros. Co.Inventors: Duncan M. Thompson, Harold V. Swanson, Lawrence J. Coombs

Patent number: 4092079Abstract: This disclosure teaches a connector for use in a method for replacing an existing utility pole (usually wood), without disturbing hardware mounted thereon. As taught in U.S. Pat. No. 3,911,548, the utility pole includes a proximal section having a bottom end attached to the earth and a distal section having hardware mounted thereon. A new pole section (preferably of prestressed concrete) is attached to the earth and has the connector mounted thereon. The distal section (with its hardware intact thereon) is severed from the proximal section. The distal section is then connected to project from the new pole section by inserting and securing the distal section in the connector. The connector includes an annular sleeve engageable about the outside of the new pole section. The sleeve projects beyond the new pole section and has push plates positioned within the sleeve to embrace the distal section to hold it socketed therein. The push plates are engaged by means of bolts anchored in the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1975Date of Patent: May 30, 1978Assignee: Interpace CorporationInventor: Harold V. Swanson

Patent number: 4066372Abstract: This disclosure teaches a slotted flange connector useable in a method for replacing an existing utility pole (usually wood), without disturbing hardware mounted thereon. As taught in U.S. Pat. No. 3,911,548, the utility pole includes a proximal section having a bottom end attached to the earth and a distal section having hardware mounted thereon. A new pole section (preferably of prestressed concrete) is attached to the earth approximately located and adapted for receiving the distal section. The distal section (with its hardware intact thereon) is severed from the proximal section. The distal section then is connected to project from the new pole section by means of the slotted flange connector disclosed herein. Closure plates complement each other to form a cylindrical enclosure about one of the pole sections. Preferably one of the closure plates is fixed and the other is moveable. The movement preferably is provided by means of bolts.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1976Date of Patent: January 3, 1978Assignee: Interpace CorporationInventors: Harold V. Swanson, Jorge E. Forero

Patent number: 3999518Abstract: A milker support including a support structure adapted to support a milking unit within a stall and which may be moved downwardly in small increments during a milking process to optimize the height of the milking unit relative to the cow as the cow is being milked out. A reciprocal motor mounts the support structure and manual controls for the motor are provided whereby the initial height of the support structure may be adjusted. An automatic control is operative to cause the motor to progressively drive the support structure, and thus the milking unit, downwardly during a milking process.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1975Date of Patent: December 28, 1976Assignee: Babson Brothers CompanyInventors: Lyle L. Needham, Harold V. Swanson, Don W. Fitzpatrick, James W. Kopec

Patent number: RE29394Abstract: A system of protecting pipes with bell and spigot joints (having metal parts) from corrosion .[.be.]. .Iadd.by .Iaddend.fitting between the spigot and bell at least one dry band of open celled material (preferably reticulated polyurethane foam) having a hydratable cement (preferably Portland cement) impregnated therein and engaging the band between the bell and the spigot. On wetting of the band, the cement is hydrated to form a water impervious hard sealant in the joint which releases alkalinity to protect the metal.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1976Date of Patent: September 13, 1977Assignee: Interpace CorporationInventors: Harold V. Swanson, Robert E. Bald
