  • Patent number: 5722390
Abstract: A fireplace wood holder which holds firewood in a vertical position so that the firewood's fibers and water-conducting channels are oriented substantially up and down to allow more complete burning and combustion, and therefore more efficient heat and mass transfer and subsequently a more efficient combustion of the wood. Additionally, the wood holder can be tilted into a filling position to provide a convenient method of adding fuel to the fire.

  • Patent number: 5673682
Abstract: An rotating air fireplace comprising a pedestal section, a fire enclosure, a truncated conical hood, and an adjustable baffle assembly. Adjusting the position of the baffle alters the inlet and outlet annular vortex and the size and intensity of the fire. Air is drawn into the fire chamber through an air inlet means located along the top end of the cylindrical fire enclosure. An air directing means is aligned with the air inlet means to impart a downward tangential flow through the fire enclosure that keeps the glass fire enclosure cool and clean. A free standing wood holding means rests on the pedestal section and is centered within the fire enclosure.

  • Patent number: 4345972
Abstract: An improved condenser for distillation purposes which is particularly suited for use in distilling alcohol. The condenser is in the form of a cylinder, open at its ends, and formed of a double jacket wall of spaced concentric cylindrical sheets, preferably of copper or aluminum metal. The jacket interior is joined at an upper end to an inlet pipe fitting that may be coupled to tube leading from a mash cooker unit. A drain tube for the distilled alcohol-water mixture extends from the bottom end of the jacket interior. A plurality of spaced legs extend from the periphery of the lower open end of the cylinder so that in use the condenser is mounted with its central axis extending on a vertical line, and with the open cylinder and located above the surface to which the cylinder legs rest or are fixed.

  • Patent number: 4332235
Abstract: An enclosed fireplace of circular cross-section mounted on a pedestal in which air is drawn into the fire chamber from spaced vertical air intake tubes mounted about the periphery of the fire chamber. A free standing wood holder rests on the center of the fire chamber and is formed of spaced horizontal concentric rings joined to a plurality of vertical legs, each leg being in the shape of a flat vane. The legs are oriented so that each of the vanes extend in a common circular direction away from the external perimeter of the rings, at an angle to the radius of the rings at the juncture of the vanes to the rings so as to impart a rotational torque to draft air passing by said vanes into the interior of the rings. The rings are of a size to contain one or more pieces of firewood with each piece preferably oriented along its vertical axis. The air intake tubes are preferably joined to a common air intake that enters through the bottom of the fireplace pedestal.

  • Patent number: 4181117
Abstract: A fireplace heating unit provided with a firebox. A vertically elongated hollow member defining in horizontal cross section a square and formed primarily of transparent material, is open at both ends and is secured at its lower end to the firebox. A hollow top section having a relatively small open upper end which defines a chimney and a lower open and conforming to and engaging the upper end of said member has a narrow horizontal peripheral border having the same shape and essentially the perimeter as said square. Shaped openings partially blocked by louvers are formed in the border of the top section.

  • Patent number: 4076009
Abstract: A generally cylindrical casing is hollow, and is supported by a base so that the axis of the casing is horizontal. A vertical partition divides the casing into a fire chamber and a smaller exhaust chamber. The smaller chamber is vented to the outside atmosphere by a chimney. The partition does not completely isolate the chambers, but enables them to be interconnected through a small gap at its bottom. Extending rearwardly along the curved portion of the casing are two oppositely disposed parallel horizontal elongated air intake slits at the level of the bottom of the partition. The major portion of the section of the casing that surround the fire chamber is of glass. The base can have a horizontal hollow half cylindrical shell at its top which supports the casing and a vertical hollow intake duct extending from a bottom opening in the base to the slits to feed air thereto.

The partition does not completely isolate the chambers, but enables them to be interconnected through a small gap at its bottom. Extending rearwardly along the curved portion of the casing are two oppositely disposed parallel elongated air intake slits at the level of the bottom of the partition. One of these slits is defined by the gap between a hinged lid allowing access to the fire chamber and the casing. The major portion of the section of the casing that surround the fire chamber is of glass, and the bottom of the fire chamber is lined with fire clay.
