Abstract: A device for securing a refuse container to a tilt frame of a refuse hauling truck. The device comprising a latch assembly including at least two latch bars, pivotally mounted on the tilt frame for releasably engaging the container. The latch bars being pivotable between a container engaging position and a disengaged position. An actuator switch is used to activate an associated pneumatic system which pivots the latching bars to engage the container and prevent further movement of the container.

Abstract: A refuse-hauling vehicle has a dumping bed for inclining containers carried on the bed. The bed pivots on a lateral axis forward of the rear end of the bed, the rear end of the bed moving downward as the forward end of the bed moves upward. A cylindrical roller is removably mounted to and between frame rails near the rear end of the bed, the roller being free to rotate on a lateral axis. The roller is installed by inserting a shaft in each end of the roller, the shafts being connected to mounting plates. Each plate is then attached to a bracket mounted on the frame rails. When installed, a lower portion of the outer surface of the roller is positioned to be the lowest point on the bed when the bed is in an inclined, or dumping, position. The roller contacts a support surface, preventing damage to the bed.

Abstract: A double container trailer is shown having a main trailer frame including a front trailer frame and a rear trailer frame, both of which define a top support surface. The rear trailer frame has a tilt frame pivotally mounted thereon for supporting a first load bearing container. A pivot mechanism is connected between the rear trailer frame and the tilt frame for pivoting the tilt frame and its associated container about a pivot point located on the rear trailer frame. A primary cable drive located on the rear trailer frame engages a first load bearing container for transporting the first container onto the top support surface of the main trailer frame to an initial transport position. A secondary cable drive engages the first load bearing container and moves the container to a final transport position forward of the initial transport position.

Abstract: A device for covering and uncovering an opening of a container for a truck or trailer has a pair of pivotal arms that are mounted along opposite sides of the container with each arm having an outer and inner end. A cross-member is mounted between the outer ends of the pivotal arms so that the pivotal arms are coupled together. The inner end of each arm is mounted to the truck or trailer at a pivot point so that arms can be pivoted between a starting position and an end position. A flexible covering is coupled to the outer ends of the arms and is drawn or withdrawn over the opening when the arms are moved to the end and starting positions. The arms are moved by providing a convex arcuate contact portion located about the pivot point of the arm. A piston rod and cylinder are mounted adjacent the contact portion. An arm engagement member is coupled to the piston rod and cylinder and engages the contact portion of the arm so that linear movement of the arm engagement member causes the arms to pivot.

Abstract: A lifting and dumping apparatus is shown for dumping the contents of a refuse container. A fixed frame is connected to a lifting attachment for moving the fixed frame between a rest position and an elevated position. A support frame is rotatably mounted on the fixed frame and has a pair of fork arms for engaging the refuse container. A rotator arm and actuator piston mechanism rotates the support frame, and hence the refuse container, between a horizontal position and a dumping position.

Abstract: The refuse collecting vehicle of the invention is used for collecting and transporting separate and distinct waste materials. The vehicle includes a vehicle chassis and a storage body rotatably mounted on the chassis. The storage body is rotated to deposit separated waste materials into associated distinct storage chambers located within the storage body. The storage chambers can be sequentially dumped by tilting the storage body at an angle with respect to the vehicle chassis.

Abstract: An extendable rolloff trailer is shown which includes a main frame having rear wheel assembly for supporting the trailer for movement over a surrounding terrain. The trailer also includes an extendable frame having a rear portion which is telescopingly engaged by the main trailer frame and having a front portion which is engaged with a tractor for pulling the trailer. A tilt frame is mounted on an upper surface of the main trailer frame and has an upper support surface for supporting a load bearing container. By locking the front end of the container to the extendable frame, the frame can be extended to redistribute the container load toward the center of the extended trailer. The trailer tilt frame can also be pivoted to tilt the associated container about a pivot to discharge the container load.

The storage body is divided into a plurality of distinct storage chambers, each of the chambers running parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. The vehicle also includes a tailgate section which is comprised of a plurality of distinct and individually actuable hopper units, each hopper unit having a loading opening which is longitudinally aligned with the respective one of the distinct storage chambers in the storage body for transferring material thereto. Each hopper unit is also pivotally mounted at the rear of the storage body for swinging movement away from the body as material is being discharged therefrom.
