  • Patent number: 4318319
Abstract: A sealing ring is disclosed which is formed of an elastomeric material wherein the cross section thereof has a plurality of substantially flat surfaces, and wherein the inner and outer diameter surfaces, which are the sealing surfaces thereof, are molded surfaces. The remaining surfaces are machined or cut surfaces. The preferred number of surfaces or faces in cross section is 8, and this has been found to give the best results, although other numbers of surfaces may also be used. Since the ring itself is not a molded ring, but has only the inner and outer surfaces thereof which are molded, there is also disclosed a novel method of making such a ring, as well as a novel apparatus for use in a carrying out the method of making the ring, wherein a molded elastomeric sleeve is provided and wherein inclined surfaces are cut therein in such a way that when the ring is severed from the sleeve it will have the desired number of flat surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4108447
Abstract: A shaft seal adapted to be inserted into the bore of a housing and around a shaft therein is disclosed, wherein an annular elastomeric sealing ring is molded to provide an annular sealing lip around the inner diameter thereof, and an annular groove extending inwardly from one surface thereof in an axial direction. A separate and removable spring ring in the groove expands the seal outwardly against the wall of the bore, and a garter spring in the groove compresses the sealing lip against the shaft. If desired, a reinforcing ring may also be positioned in the groove between the bottom thereof and an end of the spring ring.

  • Patent number: 4062574
Abstract: A fitting assembly for coupling a tubular member to mechanical devices, such as valves or cylinders is disclosed wherein the fitting includes a body member having therein a passageway communicating with the tube, and a plurality of bores of increasing diameters in which a sealing ring in one bore is held in position by a retaining ring in another bore, and a retainer member in said other bore holds the sealing ring and retaining ring in place. The retaining ring holds the tube against inadvertant removal by having an inner diameter thereof in gripping engagement with the outer surface of the tube.

  • Patent number: 4030385
Abstract: A washer cutting machine is disclosed wherein a sleeve of an elastomeric material suitable for use as a washer is placed on a mandrel and rotated. A predetermined length of the sleeve extends beyond the end of the mandrel, and a knife-edge moves in a radial direction to cut a ring from the end of the sleeve of a width such that it may be suitable for use as a washer. The machine is programmed so that the steps of loading the sleeve on the mandrel, cutting a washer from the sleeve, advancing the sleeve the width of a washer to be cut at the completion of each cutting operation, and stopping operation of the machine after the last washer has been cut therefrom, are all carried out automatically.

  • Patent number: 4011477
Abstract: Apparatus for converting the variations in magnetic force between two magnets, one rotating and one non-rotating, into reciprocating linear motion of an associated device, said apparatus including a motor driven rotatable permanent bar magnet and a non-rotatable permanent bar magnet disposed adjacent thereto and mounted for linear movement, and having an actuator shaft attached thereto, whereby the alternately attracting and repelling magnetic forces between the two magnets are effective to reciprocate the actuator shaft.

  • Patent number: 4004497
Abstract: A programmer includes an intermittently rotating drum, having thereon a series of actuators arranged in a pre-selected manner, for actuating in a predetermined order, a plurality of devices, such as fluid valves, each of which, when actuated, causes an operation to be performed. The drum is indexed by a stepping motor controlled by impulses of energy to a pilot valve in response to rotation of the drum. The actuators are removably mounted on the drum, so that the programming of the series of operations as to the order thereof, and duration of each, can be done quickly and easily, in advance. Individual valves can also be shut off when not needed.
