    Abstract: The rotational speed of the roll supporting shaft of a differential driven rewinder-unwinder is controlled whereby to substantially eliminate the generation of heat by utilizing a variable speed variable torque, regenerative motor-type drive in conjunction with a regenerative, multi-quadrant D.C. control. Current is generated and returned to the power lines during a part of each rewinding or unwinding cycle, thereby conserving energy.
