  • Patent number: 7257627
Abstract: This invention relates to the partitioning of a communications network. The idea of the invention is to divide the logical connections of a communication network into several partitions, each partition representing a certain type of transmission traffic, such as access or regional traffic. The partitioning is based on simple criteria: capacity of an endpoint of a logical connection, representing a node; distance between a pair of endpoints, and traffic category representing the stability of the traffic. By using the partitioning, it is possible to separate a certain type of traffic (a certain type of logical connections) from the whole traffic picture of the network.

  • Patent number: 7092715
Abstract: A method and apparatus determines whether a new node can be added to a wireless network at a specified position. Information concerning existing network nodes that are in the neighborhood of an inputted position of the new node is extracted from a dynamic network management database. The information extracted from the dynamic network management database may include dynamic position data and/or dynamic transmitting/receiving characteristics data of the existing network nodes. The information regarding the existing network nodes neighboring the inputted position of the new network node as extracted from the dynamic network management database is used to calculate a network coverage at the inputted position. Finally, the result of the calculated network coverage at the inputted position is outputted.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for determining whether a new node can be added to a wireless network at a specified position. Information concerning those existing network nodes that are in the neighbourhood of an inputted position of the new node is extracted from a dynamic network management database. The information extracted from the dynamic network management database comprise dynamic position data and/or dynamic transmitting/receiving characteristics data of the existing network nodes. The information regarding the existing network nodes neighbouring the inputted position of the new network node as extracted from the dynamic network management database is used to calculate a network coverage at the inputted position. Finally, the result of the calculated network coverage at the inputted position is outputted. Using such a decision support devices the advantage that a more reliable forecast of the network coverage is possible.

  • Publication number: 20040235484
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for planning an expansion of a constantly changing wireless network. Node parameters of networks nodes of the wireless network are stored in a database (109). The network is monitored by regularly reading node specific data stored at the network nodes, and the database (109) is constantly updated according to determined node changes. Based on the constantly updated node parameters a combined coverage area achieved by the network nodes is calculated. Thereby, the actual network coverage is available at any given point in time to plan network changes, to understand how good the coverage is in a particular area, and to make marketing and business decisions.

  • Publication number: 20020094798
Abstract: This invention relates to the forming of a communication network. The invention offers a common arrangement and a method to handle all tasks in the process of forming a communication network. The arrangement is divided into several modules, each carrying out certain tasks. The modules interwork with each other. A user selects the modules needed for forming a network. The selection depends on the network that is formed. Routine tasks have been automated in the arrangement. An iterative forming of a network is possible. The arrangement offers an interface to existing networks.

  • Publication number: 20020071451
Abstract: This invention concerns the forming of a communication network. The invention offers an arrangement and a method to form a communication network. The inventive arrangement is divided into several modules, such as a logical or physical topology of the network concerning a specific technology, where each one of them represents one layer of the network. Depending on the network that is going to be formed, the necessary modules are used, i.e. the set of modules is chosen to form the network. Certain network parts are formed in a relevant module. Each module uses resources (capacities and routes for connections) from the module below, i.e. a module that represents the layer below, and provides recourses to the module above, i.e. a module that represents the layer above. Hence the resource flow is from a module to an adjacent module only, intermediate modules are not bypassed.
