Abstract: An SMS-based dual mode content subscription system is disclosed. A first broadcast message associated with a subscription content source is received. A set of destination SMS addresses is determined, each destination SMS address associated with a different subscription to the subscription content source and corresponding to a different mobile device. An SMS message that includes the first broadcast message is sent to each destination SMS address, the SMS message identifying a same first sender SMS address. A reply SMS message is received from a first mobile device of a plurality of mobile devices, the reply SMS message being directed to the first sender SMS address and not being distributed to any other mobile device of the plurality of mobile devices. In response to the reply SMS message, a second SMS message that includes a first subscriber message is sent to only the first mobile device.

Social media streams associated with social media outlets are also collected and analyzed to identify occurrences of the hashtags in the social media streams, and to collect and analyze information relating to those occurrences. Scoring parameter values are assigned to each occurrence, with each scoring parameter value based on the related information, such as an identity of a notable social media user associated with the occurrence. A weighted score value is generated based on the scoring parameter values for each hashtag, and the weighted score value is presented to the reader of the article in real time. Additional visual information, such as trend lines, identities of notable social media users associated with certain occurrences, and other information may also be provided to the reader in real time.

Abstract: Merit-based anonymous content distribution. A computing device receives from a first client computing device associated with a first user, a request for a post of a plurality of posts. The computing device randomly selects a first post of the plurality of posts. The first post is provided to the first client computing device for presentation to the first user. A designation that ranks the first post is received from the first client computing device. It is subsequently determined to distribute the first post or inhibit distribution of the first post based in part on the designation.
