  • Patent number: 4957457
Abstract: A system for controlling the movement of hydraulic fluid through the fluid containing chambers of a hydraulic cylinder operatively connected between a marine vessel and its outboard drive unit includes valves disposed within the cylinder to restrict the flow of fluid between the fluid chambers and a bypass for allowing unrestricted flow of fluid between the fluid chambers. The system includes a trim valve to allow limited flow of fluid in a first direction of piston movement and a tilt valve to allow unrestricted flow of fluid between the fluid chamber of the cylinder. A velocity sensing valve is provided to sense and prevent rapid upward movement of the drive unit.

  • Patent number: 4830383
Abstract: An engine seal for preventing fluid leaks at the seam formed by the joining of two engine components includes a flowable sealant disposed along a seal bearing surface of one of the engine components and a seal engaging surface disposed along the second engine component so that upon joining the engine components, the flowable seal will be compressed between the seal bearing surface and the seal engaging surface.

  • Patent number: 4763871
Abstract: A bracket for mounting an outboard motor on a transom of a boat. The bracket has a pair of inverted U-shaped mounting members connected by a pivot pin such that the inside and outside legs of the mounting member extend downwardly over the transom. The outer legs of each mounting member are clamped into bearing engagement with the transom by means of an interconnecting thumbs screw assembly. The thumbs screw assembly includes a bolt member that extends through the outside leg and transom and an internally threaded hand operated screw member engaged on the end of the bolt member to provide a clamping arrangement with bolt-on safety and yet be able to easily be removed without wrenches for quick attachment and release of the bracket.
