  • Patent number: 4122955
Abstract: An upwardly opening shelf, preferably of wire construction, mountable on a pair of spaced uprights by a pair of brackets which coact between the opposite ends of the shelf and the adjacent uprights. The brackets are of an L-shaped configuration and include a first plate-like leg provided with a pair of vertically spaced hooks which engage spaced slots formed in the upright. The bracket has a second leg which extends substantially perpendicular to the hooked leg. This second leg comprises an enlarged substantially rectangular flat plate which is slidably supported on and confined by the rear wall of the shelf.

  • Patent number: 4118044
Abstract: A gate construction for a shopping cart basket wherein a gate panel is disposed between sidewalls of the basket for closing an end thereof. The gate panel has its lower edge pivotally supported on a pair of brackets mounted to the sidewalls adjacent the lower corners thereof. A latch structure coacts between the sidewalls and the upper corners of the gate for holding the gate in a closed position. The pivotal mounting of the gate on the brackets permits the gate panel to be lifted upwardly to release the latch structure. The gate panel can then be swung outwardly and downwardly away from the basket into an intermediate open position. The support brackets are provided with substantially L-shaped slots in which the lower edge of the gate panel is pivotally and slidably supported, which slots have elongated horizontal portions disposed below and extending rearwardly along the bottom wall of the basket.

  • Patent number: 4067591
Abstract: A nestable shopping cart having a basket assembly supported on a wheeled base assembly which includes a rearwardly opening U-shaped base member having rearwardly projecting side rails. The side rails include diverging front rail portions which project rearwardly from the front end of the cart and terminate in rear rail portions which extend over a substantial length and terminate at the rearward end of the cart. The rear rail portions diverge outwardly with respect to the front rail portions and define a flared chutelike opening at the rearward end of the base member. The base assembly can also have a tray mounted thereon. The forward end of the tray has a cross rod, the ends of which project into openings formed in the opposite side rails for creating a hinged connection. The tray also includes rearwardly extending support rods which pass over a mounting member which extends transversely between the side rails and mounts thereon the front casters.
