  • Patent number: 4727837
Abstract: An emergency throttle limiter is disclosed for a top speed limiting governor of a vehicle. The governor is of the type which comprises an overriding throttle closing device for moving the throttle to a position for limiting the engine speed to a governed value. A brake is provided for arresting the throttle closing device against movement in the open throttle direction and an electromagnet maintains the brake in a released condition as long as electrical power is supplied to the governor. When the power supply is interrupted, the electromagnet is deenergized and allows the brake to be engaged to arrest the overriding throttle control device against movement in the open throttle direction.

  • Patent number: 4604976
Abstract: A governor is disclosed for governing engine and load speed and which is especially adapted for use with motor vehicles. It comprises an overriding throttle closing device with a linear actuator for moving the device to a position for limiting the engine speed and load speed to governed values. An electronic control circuit comprising a microprocessor operating under program control produces motor control signals for a reversible electric motor which drives the actuator means through a gear train and lead screw. An engine speed signal generator provides an electrical speed signal to the control circuit and a road speed signal generator supplies a load speed signal to the control circuit. When the speed signal exceeds a predetermined value, the control circuit produces motor control signals for operating the motor at full speed to move the actuator to a reference position causing operation in a reference point governing mode.

  • Patent number: 4543932
Abstract: A cable transfer device is disclosed for interconnecting the accelerator and throttle for installing a governor in a vehicle originally equipped with a single cable between the accelerator and the throttle. The transfer device comprises a fixed shaft with a drive transmitting sleeve rotatably mounted on the shaft. An accelerator lever is rotatably mounted on the sleeve and an override lever is nonrotatably mounted on the sleeve. The sleeve and the accelerator lever are interconnected by a torsion spring which exerts a biasing torque and a stop is provided to limit the rotation of the levers. A first cable is connected between the accelerator and the accelerator lever and a second cable is connected between the override lever and the throttle. A third cable is connected between the overriding throttle closing member of the governor and the override lever.

  • Patent number: 4532901
Abstract: An engine governor having overriding means for limiting the flow of fuel to an engine, means for moving the overriding means to an intermediate reference position upon actuation of the governor, and means for moving the overriding means from the reference position to other positions for limiting the flow of fuel to that suitable for operating the engine at speeds close to a set speed. Means for actuating the governor before the engine reaches the set speed, means for moving the overriding means from the reference position to the other limiting positions at a very slow rate, and means for moving the overriding means toward limiting the fuel flow to a minimum when an over-running load causes the engine speed to run a predetermined amount above the set speed.

  • Patent number: 4473332
Abstract: A bolt for use in anchor devices in which a flat-sided head portion of the bolt is selectively received and held against rotation in a flat-sided opening of the anchor device, with the head portion of the bolt being outwardly flared with respect to the axis of the bolt to cause essentially planar contact between the bolt head portion and the opening, and with the bolt being hollow throughout its longitudinal extent.

  • Patent number: 4362138
Abstract: A spring-loaded cartridge or capsule forms a connecting link for inclusion in the accelerator-throttle linkage of an internal combustion engine to convert such linkage to a changeable length linkage which permits an overriding governing action to close the throttle against the action of the accelerator without significant effect on the operation or feel of the accelerator. The operation or feel of the accelerator is not affected because the spring-loading of the cartridge is only slightly stronger than the normal throttle-closing spring which constantly urges the throttle toward its closed position.

  • Patent number: 4181103
Abstract: A monitor connected to an automotive engine, suitably monitoring pulses in the ignition system thereof electronically, and a flyball-type governor connected to the final drive train of an automotive engine transmission driven thereby, respectively operate switches for independently causing an engine-throttle-closing fixed-rate drive to run in throttle-closing direction to override the manual throttle control whenever the engine exceeds a predetermined engine speed or the vehicle approaches or exceeds a predetermined vehicle speed. Whenever both engine and vehicle are below their respective predetermined speeds and the vehicle speed is neither constant nor accelerating in the aforementioned approach range, the unoperated switches cause the throttle drive to run in throttle-opening direction to allow, but not to cause, full-throttle operation, which may be achieved by operating the manual throttle control to open the throttle to obtain full power.
