  • Patent number: 9127972
Abstract: Method and system for calibrating a mass flow sensor. The mass flow sensor includes an impact sensor that receives an impact force due to collisions with a plurality of solid particles to generate an output signal. A model relates a mass flow input to the output signal. At least one measurable parameter is varied over a plurality of samples by varying a physical component of the mass flow sensor, and a generated output signal is received. The model can be calibrated based on the received output signal for each of the plurality of samples. A mass-flow input can also be estimated while simultaneously updating the model.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 28, 2011
Date of Patent: September 8, 2015
Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois
Inventors: Harry Dankowicz, Ryan E. Reinke

  • Publication number: 20090226055
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for three-dimensional (3-D) characterization and clinical classification of spinal deformity. By choosing three points on frontal and sagittal 2-D images, a 3-D segmented reconstruction of a spine is made available. Two additional bendAg images provide further information for a Lenke classification of the spine under consideration.

  • Publication number: 20050262911
Abstract: An implantable rod can be bent three-dimensionally in an automated system, which is especially useful for pre-surgical formation of implantable spinal rods. When local and/or global feedback processing accompanies a series of shaping steps automatically imposed on a rod or other article being shaped into three-dimensional form, formation time may be expedited compared to manual creation, and shapes difficult or impractical to create manually may be constructed simply.
