  • Patent number: 11919249
Abstract: A rotary impulse sealer includes a roller having a roller body and a plurality of seal bars extending radially outwardly from the roller and spaced apart around the roller body. At least one of the seal bars has a body and a selectively heatable heating element extending along at least a part of a length of the seal bar body. The roller is rotatable through a pre-heating pressure application region in which the at least one seal bar is adapted to apply pressure to a bond area of the bondable material, followed by a heating region in which the at least one seal bar is adapted to heat the bond area, wherein the at least one seal bar and tensioned belt are configured to sandwich the bondable material directly between the at least one seal bar and tensioned belt during the pre-heating pressure application region and the heating region.

  • Publication number: 20230257152
Abstract: There is provided a method of manufacturing sachets. The method involves moving a web of semi-rigid material through a cutting station and simultaneously cutting a discrete cut in the web of semi-rigid material while the web of semi-rigid material continues to move through the cutting station. The method also includes sandwiching the web of semi-rigid material between a first flexible web of material and a second web of flexible material such that the first web of flexible material seals the discrete cuts in the semi-rigid web of material and the second web of flexible material forms a continuous elongate reservoir with the web of semi-rigid material. There is also provided an apparatus for cutting a web of material. The apparatus has a cutting roller and at least one cutting element protruding beyond the exterior surface of the roller, wherein the cutting element has a cutting profile that is at least partly a zigzag shape.

  • Publication number: 20210178704
Abstract: A rotary impulse sealer for forming a series of discrete bonds in a bondable material. The rotary impulse sealer has a roller rotatable about an axis. The roller has a roller body and a plurality of seal bars extending radially outwardly from the roller and spaced apart around the roller body. At least one of the seal bars has a body and a selectively heatable heating element extending along at least a part of a length of the seal bar body. The roller is rotatable through a pre-heating pressure application region in which the at least one seal bar is adapted to apply pressure to a bond area of the bondable material, followed by a heating region in which the at least one seal bar is adapted to heat the bond area, the regions being stationary with respect to the rotation of the roller.

  • Publication number: 20070289891
Abstract: A sachet has a semi-rigid layer laminated between first and second outer layers. A line of weakness formed in a mid-portion of the semi-rigid layer sequentially delineates inter-digitated finger portions of the semi-rigid layer. The first outer layer seals over and around the line of weakness. The second outer layer, optionally formed with a reservoir, is fixed to either or both of the other two layers. The sachet is flexed preferentially at the line of weakness by application of a compression force between opposite sachet edges to move at least the tips of the finger portions away from respective immediately surrounding portions of the semi-rigid layer and thereby rupture the first outer layer in the vicinity of the line of weakness and form an opening for discharge of sachet contents. A two-layered precursor web and a series of interconnected sachets are also claimed.

  • Publication number: 20060285336
Abstract: A high intensity back light assembly or high brighting LCD flat panel display which incorporates a precision machined light box having machined surfaces on the front to receive thin fluorescent light tubes and efficiently reflect the light from these tubes to the back of the liquid crystal display. The back of the light box contains troughs which are machined into the metal and which coact with the main circuit board to form a manifold or plenum for conducting cooling air long and around the back of the light box by means of fans mounted on and which discharge through passages in the main circuit board. Air is exhausted from the plenum formed by the coaction of the main circuit board and the troughs in the back of the light box through other passages in the main circuit board to cool the other circuits mounted on the circuit board associated with the back light assembly.

  • Patent number: 4425590
Abstract: A video tape recorder designed so that the time for placing the tape in position to record and play-back and for activating the tape movement is materially reduced. Upon the cassette being inserted into the recorder, the tape is withdrawn and immediately positioned proximate to the record/reproduce heads. The reel torque on the supply side is increased, and the capstan shaft activated to accelerate the tape to its normal speed. This is accomplished by instructing the microprocessor in a conventional machine to perform different functions that it was designed to perform, i.e. to enter the play mode directly upon cassette insertion while shutting off the capstan motor and connecting the video output to the video input through a relay. Supply tension is also reduced. Only after the play mode is selected is the capstan activated, the supply tension returned to normal value, and the video input decoupled from the video output.

  • Patent number: 4048935
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a container body side seam construction wherein a metal body blank is provided with adhesive strips along opposite edges thereof, followed by the forming of hooks at such opposite edges. Thereafter, the body blank is formed in a conventional body-making machine so as to first interlock the hooks and then, while the hooks are engaged, flattening the hooks to form an interlocked side seam wherein the adhesive strips are in tightly clamped relation with respect to one another and portions of the side seam. While the adhesive strips are so held, the side seam is heated so as to effect bonding of the adhesive strips. The principal advantage of the container body side seam construction is that no external means is required to hold the side seam portions in their proper positions while the adhesive strips are being heated and then permitted to set.

  • Patent number: 3945426
Abstract: A splash can for placement in a mold before pouring molten metal into the mold, so as to eliminate scab producing splashes during pouring into the ingot mold. The top of the mold typically has a mouth of reduced diameter and the splash can of the present invention is of cylindrical form having a diameter greater than the mouth. The can is formed from material compatible with the molten material and deformable so that the can can be folded for introduction into the ingot mold through the mouth without exceeding the elastic limit of the material. The can is retained in the folded position by a tension member that is wrapped therearound; after the folded can is introduced into the mold, the tension member is severed whereupon the can springs into a generally cylindrical shape within the mold.
