  • Patent number: 6129361
Abstract: A conduit seal is provided for sealing a passageway in an automotive transmission. The transmission has an oil passageway and a member covering the passageway. The passageway is in fluid communication with a clutch. A bore communicates oil from the passageway to a passageway provided in the clutch. An annular seal is sealingly engaged with the bore of the case and the clutch to provide a fluid conduit therebetween. A compliant member is provided between the annular seal and the cover member to axially urge the seal into sealing engagement with the outer surface of the clutch.

  • Patent number: 5992834
Abstract: A spring support assembly for preventing compression instability displacement of helically coiled compression springs includes first and second support rings located at axially opposite ends of an arrangement of coil springs, the springs located at equal angular intervals about a longitudinal axis. Each support ring includes a support surface against which an end of each spring is supported, outwardly turned flanges located within each spring coil, and a tab extending partially along the length of the spring having close-fitting contact with the inside diameter of the spring coil. A support ring at the opposite end of the spring pack includes a support surface and tab angularly offset from the support surface, the tabs of each support ring located in adjacent compression springs.

  • Patent number: 5937985
Abstract: In a hydraulically actuated friction clutch or brake for an automatic transmission, contact between a pressure plate and retaining ring, each drivably engaged with an axially spline, is located at radialy outer position on the retaining ring, either because the adjacent surface of the pressure plate is relieved to produce contact at that location or because the retaining ring has a lateral surface that is relieved locally or tapered away from the surface of the retaining ring. Bending through the thickness of the component in which the spline teeth engage the pressure plate and retaining ring is reduced because the reaction force is applied to that component closer to the neutral axis than if contact between the pressure plate and retaining ring were distributed over a greater radial dimension of the retaining ring.

  • Patent number: 5893445
Abstract: First and second sets of friction discs for a clutch or brake of an automatic transmission are arranged alternately on a member, on which one of the sets is drivably engaged with a spline. A Belleville spring having a discontinuous annular outer band is located with a slight radial interference within a groove such that the band is stabilized and held in position to prevent inadvertent dislocation of the friction discs from the clutch member to which they are assembled. A clutch cylinder supports a piston moveable toward the friction discs to engage the clutch and is urged by the Belleville spring out of contact with the friction disc when hydraulic pressure is removed from the cylinder.
