  • Patent number: 4637804
Abstract: An electron gun comprises, as in prior guns, a plurality of metal gun elements, held in position from a common ceramic member. A novel transition member is brazed to the common ceramic member. The transition member has a contact portion and a removable frame portion. The transition member is a bimetal comprising two layers of metal bonded face-to-face along an interface extending therebetween. A first layer of metal has a melting point higher than that of a second layer of metal. The novel transition member is provided with a V-notched weakened bridge region extending through the first layer of metal and terminating at the interface with the second layer of metal having the lower melting point. The frame portion of the transition member is removed from the contact portion at the V-notched bridge region when the transition member is brazed to the common ceramic member and the second layer of metal melts. The contact portion has a substantially smooth edge following removal of the frame portion.

  • Patent number: 4633130
Abstract: The novel electron gun comprises, as in prior guns, a plurality of cathode assemblies and at least two spaced successive electrodes having aligned apertures therethrough for passage of a plurality of electron beams. The cathode assemblies and the electrodes are individually held in position from a common ceramic member. The ceramic member has a first major surface and an oppositely disposed second major surface with a metallized pattern formed on at least a portion of each major surface. The electrodes are attached to the first major surface, and the cathode assemblies are attached to the second major surface. Unlike prior guns, a first transition member is attached to the metallized pattern on the first major surface. At least one of the electrodes is attached to the first transition member.

  • Patent number: 4605880
Abstract: A multibeam electron gun comprises two spaced successive electrodes individually held in position from a common electrically-insulating support. One electrode comprises a single metal plate having at least three electron-beam defining first apertures therein. The other electrode is a composite structure comprising a support plate and a second metal plate having at least three electron-beam-defining second apertures therein. Each of the first and second plates includes substantially triangularly-shaped alignment apertures which are mutually aligned so that the beam-defining apertures are aligned along common axes.

  • Patent number: 4500808
Abstract: A multibeam electron gun comprising two spaced successive electrodes individually held in position from a common support. One electrode comprises a single metal first plate having at least three electron-beam-defining first apertures therein. The other electrode is a composite structure comprising (a) a single metal second plate having a window therein opposite each of said first apertures and (b) a separate metal third plate attached to said second plate closing each of the windows. The third plate has a single electron-beam-defining second aperture therein separately aligned with one of the first apertures.

  • Patent number: 4298818
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement in a multi-beam electron gun for use in a cathode-ray tube. Such gun includes a plurality of cathode assemblies and at least two spaced successive electrodes having aligned apertures therein. The improvement comprises the cathode assemblies and the two electrodes being individually attached to a single ceramic member. The ceramic member is the sole supporting interconnection within the gun between the cathode assemblies and the two electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4176432
Abstract: Uniform cathode-to-grid spacing in an electron gun including a plurality of cathodes is provided by first, inserting a metal strip and a confronting plastic strip on the cathode side of a grid. The sum of the thicknesses of the two strips is the desired cathode-to-grid spacing. Next, the cathodes are moved until the cathodes press against one of the strips. The cathodes now are affixed relative to the grid. Thereafter, one of the strips not in contact with the cathodes is withdrawn. Finally, the other strip is withdrawn.
